CHASE BANK MURAL, SAN JOSE

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Lacey Bryant was raised in the SF Bay Area, making art, reading, and creating elaborate make-believe games with her younger brother. Inspired by the natural environments of California and forgotten treasures discovered on her urban adventures @WescoverApp reports Bryant "creates surreal narrative vignettes with anachronistic elements." Bryant says the characters of her haunting narratives "inhabit a realm of strange, nostalgic sweetness with undercurrents of darkness and mystery." In the Spring of 2018 Bryant collaborated with @LocalColorSJ and the @SJDowntown Association, to create this mural for Chase Bank on Santa Clara St in downtown San Jose.  @laceybryantart/

The Slow Tarot is the result of a personal art project by the artist that spanned over six years—a long labor of love realized through the careful and methodical creation of an original work of art for every card in the tarot deck. Lacey's goal of the project has always been to create a deck of tarot cards featuring the artwork, and with the production and design resources provided by the gallery and the support of project backers, we are hope to to make this dream a reality. #theslowtarot was my birthday gift to myself. It is a gorgeous deck of paintings by #LaceyBryant. I made the observation on someone else's post that apart from this one card the #7ofcoins, I love this deck. The depiction of the 7 of coins just doesn't seem to fit with my understanding of that card from any traditional system. In fact the little white book they call a guidebook actually says this card is about gambling. I might see that as a reversal meaning. Their response was "I read intuitively so it doesn't really matter what the traditional meaning of the card is." I realized that my idea of reading intuitively only applies to the spread as a while and not the individual cards in a spread. I usually don't look at them intuitively unless they are not making sense to me....such as with this card. I supposed that this gambler is prepared which is for me a lot of what this card is normally about. Financial preparation, assessing the situation...
