“I don’t deserve the title,” Guy muttered, hardly able to look the young man in the eye. “I took the life of the woman I loved. She manipulated me and in a fit of rage, I killed her.”
Every time he closed his eyes, he could see her face. The agony, the accusation, and the loathing. She would have killed him if she had been in any position to do so, but he had beaten her to it.
“I can fight with a sword, lance, and a bow. I’m capable of leading men, although I’d rather not. I don’t need any physical training - So, Lord Commander Snow: will you have me as a sworn brother?” Guy asked, taking in the strong young man before him. Cold, dark eyes and a strong jaw - Snow would show him no mercy or do him any favors, like a true man of the north.
//Good,// he thought, clenching his jaw. //I don’t deserve them anyway.//
It was his JOB to know every man that came to the wall's story, it was to insure that each man was SAFE while they served. ---- Even though the wall was not a safe place to live, && breathe, they still needed their men alive, && ready to fight anything trying to get over. The threats to the wall included the white walkers, wildlings, && other creatures currently unknown.
Jon could only hope that they'd stand a chance against the dead, yet they would not if they didn't find more dragon glass. Dragon glass had given them a fighting chance, yet now it was gone, && stuck at Hardhome. They would never see it again.
"Aye, yet you were born with it, mockery is common upon the wall."
Jon was silent as he listened to the other man's story, eyes dull as he speaks. He had heard worse, at least this man had shown remorse for what he had done, that mattered. Jon would take him in, since he was so willing to serve the watch, && give his life. "I cannot offer an easy path through, you must endure the training like every man, despite your skill. They did the same to me." He tells him, eyes firm.
"You will be trained like every other man if you wish to join the watch."
"Aye, I will, you will train && then you will swear your oath before the gods. You may take no wife, && father no children. You will be stripped of the title you once held, && your watch will end the moment you die." He rasps, voice rough, && stern. "I will see to it that you receive a room, your training will begin tomorrow. Be up by dawn, && earn your place as a sworn brother through your training."
"I hope you understand what you'd be giving up by joining the watch."
