so I made a thing based off of lacunta's prompt about a sick kevin and a doting double d so yeah. enjoy~
It started with a cough.
A cough that came from the deep insides of Kevin’s chest, shaking his whole body and making his throat wheeze with stress. Edd, walking beside him on their way up to Edd’s front door, stopped looking through his bag with a jump.
“Oh my, Kevin! Are you well?” Edd asked, his face furrowed with concern. Kevin nodded, but ended bringing up an elbow to his mouth and letting out a series of hacking coughs.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” he added reassuringly, even though his throat felt drier than the Sahara and tears had formed in the corners of his eyes. He cleared his throat, and pulled the shorter fellow into a hug. Edd pushed away slightly though, his face in a grimace.
“Kevin, I believe you may have contracted a virus.”
“I’m not sure...,” Edd responded, but his boyfriend quieted him with a kiss on the lips. He melted for a few moments, completely forgetting about the worrying cough that had come from the other not even two minutes prior. They kissed on the front steps and probably could have kept going, until Kevin pulled away and let out another series of coughs. Edd winced. Kevin chuckled again, goosing his boyfriend before turning back and going down the front steps.
“I’ll see you later, Dorko.” He called out, coughing again into his elbow.
“Kevin!” Edd yelled back, but either Kevin ignored him, or merely did not hear him, and kept walking. He let out a sigh, unable to calm his rambling thoughts of boyfriend’s well-being as he let himself into his home.
~~~
Edd had begun to notice the daily routine Kevin followed in the morning. He usually woke up the rumbling of his boyfriend’s motorcycle as he drove to school for early baseball practice. But when the familiar noise didn’t sound out and Edd almost didn’t wake up in time, and when Kevin was not waiting for Double D at his locker with a kiss and a pleasant “Good morning, Dorko”, Edd knew something was up.
Kevin must be under the weather.
Edd shot straight back to the culdesac once the ending bell rang, his backpack housing his and his boyfriend’s homework for the night, and knocked on Kevin’s door. His mind reeled with theories to what Kevin had contracted. Finally, the door creaked open.
The lights were off and the blind were pulled down, revealing a very dark interior despite how bright the sun was outside. But what worried Edd was what was standing in front of him: Kevin was shirtless with flannel pajama pants, and wrapped in what looked to be his comforter pulled from his bed. His nose was red, his eyes were watery, but his signature red hat was still sitting atop his head. He looked miserable.
“Hey,” he croaked, smiling at the shorter brunette. Kevin leaned in to give Edd a kiss, but was shocked to find him pulling away with a grimace on his face.
“I apologize but we are not having any kind of contact if you are feeling so unwell. It’s very reckless, and I don’t want to end up sick in my own home with this virus.”
“I’m fine, I,” the ill redhead started to croak in a hoarse voice, a result of the cold, but ended up letting out a series of coughs and a sniffle.
“Yes, because you are obviously fine. Thank goodness you stayed home from school today or else you would have put everyone at risk for this. I brought the homework you missed.” Edd started to dig around his bag for the papers, as Kevin leaned against the doorframe, closing his eyes and pulling the blanket closer around him. “Here,” Edd held the papers out, but one look at his boyfriend in such a miserable state made his heart ache. He grabbed Kevin’s free hand, and went inside the house, pulling Kevin with him.
“What, what are you doing?”
Double D shushed him and pushed Kevin back onto the couch. “Sit here. Don’t speak.” He placed his book bag beside the sick redhead, and pulled out a mini whiteboard and marker, previously used for school activities. “Write your inquiries on that instead.”
Kevin lodged the cap in his mouth, pulling the marker out and scribbling on the board.
“That’s so unsanitary.”
Kevin snorted, and then held up the board.
diagnose me doctor dorko
Edd placed onto the book bag on the floor and sat down next to his boyfriend, keeping a little space in between them. “Well, we need to discuss what your symptoms are. Runny nose, sore throat, cough. It seems that you have nasopharyngitis.”
?????
“The common cold.” Edd smiled.
i don’t like being sick fix me
“What have you eaten today? Have you taken any ibuprofen?”
i took some shit my mom left out on the counter
“What about nourishment?”
Kevin shook his head, and then Edd could hear his stomach growl loudly.
“Kevin! You must be famished! Please wait here, I will return shortly.”
Fifteen minutes later, Double D returned to the home, a steaming pot of homemade chicken noodle soup in his hands and a surgical mask covering his nose and mouth. Kevin snapped one of the straps, smirking as Edd swatted his hand away.
“I am taking the necessary precautions so I do not become ill as well.”
Kevin wanted to do nothing but rip that mask off and smash his lips against Double D’s. Having his boyfriend worry over him better than his other mother would was amazing, and he wanted to pull him close, wrap him in his blanket, and never let go. But instead, Kevin swallowed down the soup his boyfriend had made, the broth warming him like the sun was inside his stomach. He chugged it down in minutes.
that was some damn good soup dorko
“It’s a fairly simple recipe to follow, if you would like to have it.”
it won’t be as good if i make it
you make it delicious
Before Edd could even protest, Kevin leaned over and his head landed in the smaller boy’s lap. His hat fell off along the way, revealing his messy orange hat hair, and he curled up against Edd. In mere minutes, he was asleep.
Edd pulled the surgical mask off and gave his boyfriend a kiss on his cheek, on a patch of unshaven roughness that felt amazing against Edd’s lips. And rather than leave in Kevin’s time of need, Edd started to run his hand through his red hair, a rare occurrence that he would rather take up now instead of regretting later. And in minutes, he was asleep too.
