The saddest part about miraculous ladybug is the POTENTIAL it had, layers upon layers of interesting story:

- the love square dynamic

- a hero son and a villain father but neither of them know it

- marinette’s lowkey stalker energy (I wish it was portrayed better I think that could be so cool)

- Adrien not understanding how to express love in a healthy way

- Adrian being a SENTIMONSTER literally incapable of disobeying his father

- the whole concept of Chat Noir giving Adrian freedom and Ladybug taking Marinette’s freedom away

- Marinettes “smart girl, just crazy” compared to Adrian’s “dumb blonde, but pretty sweet” dynamic that we get every once in a while

All of it thrown away by trashy writing 😭

miraculous reveal but they both have doofenshmirtz levels of recognition so they turn around and it takes them both a comically long time to connect the dots that yes, their friend/crush is in fact their superhero partner

Love the chat blanc horror of it all but chat in all white just makes me think he’d be wearing the dress

marichat isn’t the best part of the love square bc of the ‘true selves’ thing or sin ship or whatever fanon the fandom believes in, they are the best part because they are at their dumbest. when chat is with ladybug he’s trying to impress her, he’s waiting for orders to beat a bad guy, and just trying to keep everyone safe. when chat is just hanging out at chat, no ladybug, he doesn’t have to be responsible, and he isn’t under his fathers thumb. he can just goof off.

same goes for marinette, when she’s around Adrian she’s a fluttering mess, and when she’s ladybug she’s too focused on her job to do anything else. but when she’s marinette with chat, that’s just her hanging out with her partner without the weight of her job as ladybug in the way. she can tease him and share things with him like she does with Alya and her other friends.

when they’re together there is no underlying pressure, they can just be themselves. ad who are they? at their very core? stupid, chaotic, dumb teenagers. they’re so fucking funny when they’re together bc they are just so stupid.
