I remember when I looked at Ben for the first time. What I felt? Nothing special. He was a normal man with problems that has nothing do with me. But somehow I knew he was not okay... Nonsense mine! After all, it was obvious: none of us could be fine for working such a schedule! Anyway, I didn't feel this "love at first sight" thing, you know? It's like I said, I didn't feel anything special about him. And what about Anakin? How did you feel about him on the first time, deeply, above all?
The woman gulped at the question, timidly biting the insides of her lower lip. It had been so long since the last time she thought about such thing. It was painful; burdensome even to go back in time this far. However, the memories were so fond and pure Amidala had to cede. The corners of her mouth curled gently into a ladylike smile, brightening her countenance even though there was something in her eye; something hidden, something old, something full of sorrow. — Funny question, indeed. — She muttered fondly. — When I first met Anakin he was just a little boy. A slave. — Dark eyes shadowed the words in the perfect heavy tone. — I couldn’t have imagined I would marry him one day. However, he knew it. — She beamed ever so slightly at the childish remembrance. — He knew it and he told me he wouldn’t be a just a little boy forever. He scared me at the time but now that I think of it… It was adorable. — A light, soothing laughing sound could be heard as Padmé covered her mouth with the back of her veiny hand. — I also didn’t love him at first sight. He was dear to me, yes, he was. But… Love? — She closed her eyes and shook her head gently, making her curls wiggle in the air. — Love came later. He grew on me. He crept up on me until I was hopelessly in love and then… — Her throat dried and she halted her train of thoughts rapidly, displaying a forced smile on her crimson-painted lips; matching the colour of her cheeks upon suppressing the urge to cry. — Well, you asked if we were in love at first sight. — Nervous, shivery laughter. — What about you and your Ben? Did he crept up on you too? — A single tear made its way down her delicate face as she closed her eyes to smile.

To alleviate her solitude and the impact of her new lifestyle, Padmé often thought about adopting a child but was extremely cautious about this. Almost a year after the twins' death, she found an orphan Chiss girl roaming around the streets of Theed, hiding, and sheltered her at Varykino for a few weeks, until the crowded orphanage she was assigned to stay could take her under their roof. Very pleased and light-hearted with her new companion, Padmé grew very fond of the little blue-hued babygirl. She was aware she would never completely heal from the wounds her biological children left after their demise but perhaps performing the role of a mother to the needy lifeform could help her fill the hollow in her heart. She had already decided to adopt the little girl, Dara, when one day, during their trip to show Dara Theed's Royal Palace, an Imperial invasion separated the two and when Padmé found her again after the fuss the stormtroopers made (In which they killed Queen Apailana), Dara had been murdered; a laser blast burn could be seen on her belly, she was caught amidst the firing. Padmé had a severe breakdown and from that day on, she knew she couldn't do such thing anymore and that she wouldn't bear another death so soon.
gala night;
Imperial Balls were thrown at least annually by the newly self-proclaimed Emperor Palpatine; and whilst the good lady trusted she would be hopelessly forgotten after retiring from the Senate, her old mentor and friend proved himself to be more attentive and polished than she ever expected. And Amidala was not even a little bit cheerful about it. Her attendance at the Imperial Palace for the Ball was purely in fear of retaliation on her and on the Naboo; the latter being her ultimate preoccupation, naturally, and to bring harm upon them was something she most certainly would not allow. The return to Coruscant was also nothing pleasant. However, being the realistic woman she was, Amidala refused to dwell on such thoughts and swallowed hard her angst as she had been taught to do since her most tender age. She paced elegantly down the Grand Corridor of the Palace while the clicking of her delicate shoes against the marble-covered floor echoed through the immensity of the chamber.
She signaled for her guards to stay outside the ballroom and made her entrance after being properly announced. Padmé exhibited her most genuine regal grin as people turned their heads over to glance at her and descended the monumental staircase with great daintiness; only to blend in the multitude of nobles and diplomats awaiting for her. The lady patiently made her way through false smiles, empty conversations and unbearably egocentric life forms until she finally found her most dear acquaintances which included old colleagues from the Senate and members of Royal Houses she had the pleasure to have befriended during her terms as monarch of Naboo. Although many of them would just compliment her supposedly exquisite appearance and proceed to small talk, Padmé was relieved to, at least, be apt to give herself the luxury of frivolity amongst trustworthy individuals. Their company was something sufficient, even if for little time, to sweeten the bitter taste of her hard work be laid to waste and the resentment of being practically obliged to celebrate it at a Ball. Feeling she had just ruined her night, Padmé quickly withdrew such thoughts and displayed a gentle smile while excused herself from the group to walk calmly towards the veranda; to breathe.
a friendly hand;
The streets of Theed were very noisy, bursting with people and their preparations for the upcoming festival that was supposed to be held in those same streets, by nightfall. Amidala was always glad to walk around the beautiful capital of Naboo, for even amongst dark times, it had its own way of shining and suppressing all the pain people were bound to suffer in the name of the Empire. She testily halted her train of thoughts after the mentioning of such government. Hidden under her cloak's mauve hood, she calmly paced down the streets observing her surroundings with heavy eyes, wishful to be infected by the people's joy.
She was almost reaching her destiny, a small flower shop near the end of the road, when she spotted an elderly woman selling food, that she couldn't identify which kind from afar, on the sidewalk of the old chapel. The lady had a soothing look on her face and her hands were seemingly trembling, however, as Padmé approached her neat table of goodies, she noticed how good-looking those sweets were; their smell was also fantastic. The younger lady gave the older one a sparkling, gentle smile and quietly asked her to wrap up a portion of havla for her. The white-haired lady nodded happily and did as it was requested of her, although slower than Padmé expected.
