I seriously love this character design, Jade is so cute, and of course I will forever wish I was born with lavender hair 💀 I did a lot of upgrades on a purchased costume, it was just a treat to myself since I was so overwhelmed and unable to make myself anything over the winter! But I have lots of new projects in the works now!

As time passed and they each spent more time with Dragonfly, both Macaque and Wukong couldn’t help but notice just how many connections she had to supernatural creatures and other non-human entities. A frankly surprising amount of yāoguài knew her, or at least knew of her, to the point that they both wondered how she’d escaped their notice all this time. It would have made sense if she was a sorcerer or exorcist, or if she belonged to one of those human clans which had carefully passed down supernatural knowledge and skills from generation to generation....

But she wasn’t. She was just a normal human, with the magical capability of a rock. There was no obvious explanation for her knowledge and connections...So of course they asked her about it. 

There was no hesitation in her answer, and while they’d come to expect the unexpected from her, the cheerful smile on her face when she informed them she’d been sold to a yāoguài as a child made both monkeys falter.

Being sold was shocking enough- but to be sold to Lady Jade, the famous owner of Precious Jade Workshop? Suddenly all her knowledge and connections made sense.

I’ve been looking forward to revealing this for so long! For those who don’t know, ‘Lady Jade’ is a character from the 2019 Animated Chinese-American Movie ‘White Snake’. Precious Jade Workshop was a key location in the movie, a place where magical tools and weapons were made by yāoguài for yāoguài, and it was owned and run by a powerful and mysterious Huli jing (Fox-Demon) known only as ‘The Owner’. (As she was never actually named in the film, I’ve given her the name/title ‘Lady Jade’ for this story, to make referring to her easier.)

rant about lady Jade!

ah finally someone who wants to hear about her.

strap in, it's a lot of lore!

So, Lady Jade is an anthro Giant Tortoise, loosely based off Master Oogway.

She was originally just a domesticated Giant Tortoise, bought at some point in the 70s by a globetrotting couple.

Then, in the late 70s-early 1980, the island she lived on was evacuated, due to a chemical leak that rendered the whole Archipelago uninhabitable for humans.

She is the oldest character in the known story, and was the first to Rise (become bipedal, self-aware, etc).

Lady Jade is a Sage, the only character able to use magic. Sages use their wisdom to heal others. The title of Sage cannot be passed down through generations, it can only be bestowed upon you at birth. As a result, when Lade Jade eventually reaches the end of her life, Jun will not become a Sage, and the population of Pluvia will have to wait until another Sage is born.

Lady Jade's real name is Cerise, due to the pinkish tint of her shell. Jade is merely an official name.
