"I'm shying from the light, I always loved the night
And now you offer me eternal darkness"
Lokius. No TVA AU. Lokius are SHIELD agents. Loki is a newer SHIELD agent but he is still Loki, Second Prince of Asgard. Lady Mobius, and I've blended Mobius and Don's names for her.
There is a serial killer on the loose and there is reason to believe he might have some sort of super-power, which makes him even more deadly than your average serial killer which would've been bad enough. But, the super-powered status is what brought SHIELD in on this rather than the FBI.
Agent Loki Laufeyson is a newer addition to SHIELD, but he has quickly climbed his way up the ranks until he becomes partnered with Donna Mobius, though she insists on being called Don or Mobius, not Donna. At 42 she started out in this field back when there weren't quite as many women as there are now and if you could get your male co-workers to view you as "one of the guys" it went a long way for being treated with respect and like you were actually competent in your job. Today, that is no longer the culture surrounding things, or at least not so much. But old habits die hard.
Loki honestly has no idea how he is going to work with her as his partner long term. They get along great and became fast friends and they make an amazing team. They're already being called the Dynamic Duo and other such things. Nothing has stuck yet, though. But his problem is that he has developed a crush on her the size of Asgard itself, and he thought it might even encompass the rest of the nine realms in size. She was gorgeous, funny, witty, incredibly good at her job, and...did he mention she's gorgeous? Long silver hair that he wanted to run his fingers through, even having caught himself almost asking just the other day if she might consent to letting him braid it. And one needed to know Loki well as a person to know why that was something remarkable. Loki was not like his brother, he did not constantly have his hands on other people.
And while he is thinking of getting his hands on people, he really wants to get his hands on Don's stomach. She's soft around the middle in just the most delectable way. To be quite fair, there was no part of Don that Loki did not want to get his hands on, squeeze and rub and suck marks onto.
But then something was said that clued him in that he was daydreaming again and staring at his partner's stomach like he wanted to rip her shirt off (which was an accurate assessment of his desire but he refrained, of course. He had no such permission and no reason to think she would grant it if he had asked; though, he did think she had some interest in him but he'd never met someone like her before so he couldn't be sure and he didn't want to misstep here) when he really should be paying attention to the discussion about the serial killer they were hunting.
"It's entirely possible that he'll strike here next. This park has a wooded area along the jogging path, very secluded and it's perfect for his MO and with the triangulation Casey and I have done, it's the most likely spot," O.B. said, cheerfully.
"So, we need someone to act as bait, essentially," Don said, humming as she rubbed her chin. She had her long hair up in a clip at the moment and Loki almost got lost thinking about how soft it looked.
"Exactly. And you know, you're exactly his type, Mobius," Casey mentioned.
That snapped Loki out of his fantasies. "What? Why does it have to be Don? I could do it," he said, quickly, frowning.
"Loki, you're not his type," Don pointed out, raising an eyebrow at him.
"I could be a woman," Loki pointed out.
"You still wouldn't be his type," Don said. "No, it makes more sense for me to do it. I have more experience, I'm the senior officer between us, and if I dye my hair back to its natural blonde color from before I went grey I'll fit the bill perfectly."
"Don't be preposterous, Don, you don't even jog," Loki said, as if that made any sense and was at all relevant to being bait. She could jog long enough to get the perp's attention and that's all they needed.
"Maybe not, but I do know how to jog and I can keep it up long enough to get this guy's attention if he's there. I'm not that out of shape," she pointed out.
Loki frowned. "That isn't what I meant."
"I know. It's okay, Loki," Don said with a smile.
He hated the way she was always making self-deprecating comments about her body and her weight and her age. He knew she said they were just jokes, but she said them often enough in ways that made him think they were not just jokes. She really was sensitive about that and he thought the jokes were a way for her to get out ahead of it before anyone else could make a comment or take the sting out of it if they did by laughing at herself.
"It's not okay. You aren't going to be bait for this...this savage, Donna. I forbid it," Loki said, heatedly.
Everyone had been quietly watching them but now the silence in the room was different.
Loki blinked and looked around. Many of the others were looking at the floor, or at a wall, or suddenly just very interested in their paperwork or computer monitors. Casey was making a wide-eyed face and cutting a line in the air with his hand over his neck.
Even O.B. was giving a sympathetic grimace, as if Loki had just been sentenced to the gallows.
And then it registered what he had actually said and his own eyes widened and he looked back at Donna. "Uh...y-you see, Don..." he stammered, attempting to quickly rack his brain for an extra braincell to come up with a way to salvage things before he was subsequently murdered right here in the middle of the bullpen.
Donna quirked an eyebrow and folded her arms beneath her breasts, and wasn't that distracting? Gods but she was beautiful in every way. The way that enhanced both her breasts and her beautiful stomach while also allowing her to strike such a powerful, no-nonsense pose.
Ugh. He might be a god but he would let her break him in half.
Focus, Loki!
"Do you wanna maybe rephrase that?" Donna asked.
"Yes. I would. I would very much like to rephrase that," Loki replied.
"Go ahead, then," Don said.
"Right. What I mean to say is that I'm very concerned about your safety and well-being and I don't like the idea that you might run into him without immediate back-up at the ready. I know that you are a trained SHIELD agent and a damned good one, but back-up is important in every mission as per the...manual," Loki said, nodding and very proud of himself for coming up with that.
"That's better," Donna said, smiling and leaning close to bump her shoulder lightly with Loki's.
Loki grinned that grin that he had noticed made her cheeks pink up a bit.
"But I'm still gonna be the bait," she finished. "Anyway, you wanna get some pie before we take this discussion any further?"
