Lokius. Unrequited love but not really (they're just idiots).
TW: Infidelity/Cheating (but not between Lokius)
The wedding was literally about to start and Loki had just seen his best friend's bride in the cloakroom with one of the groomsmen and they were not simply organizing people's coats.
Loki had disliked both of them upon sight but he had stifled that part of himself that he thought was just borne of greed and envy. Greed for others getting attention from Mobius that used to be all Loki's, envious because he wanted to be the one Mobius loved.
He had swallowed his protestations down again, going against every natural selfish tendencies, when Mobius told him that he and this woman were moving in together.
And again when he was told about the engagement.
Again, when Mobius asked him to be his best man for the wedding. He had agreed.
Whatever Mobius wanted. Whatever made him most happy.
Loki had finally found someone who saw him in ways no one else ever had before but which Loki had been begging all of his life for. And in return Loki had given Mobius his entire heart with much hope but no expectation.
He had simply neglected to mention that he had done this.
That he had finally found someone he loved more than he hated himself, and that that self-loathing was being healed from the inside out by that same person. Mobius.
And Mobius still kept his heart, to this day. But Mobius had given his own heart to someone else and they were in the process of stomping all over it.
Loki did not bother to confront the two people currently in the process of betraying Mobius. He didn't have time to waste.
Instead, he ran to locate his best friend, the man he loved above all else. Loki had made a grave miscalculation by not listening to his gut and now Mobius was going to pay for it.
Thus ensues a comedy of errors where Loki tries multiple times to tell Mobius about what was going on, only for sudden interruption after sudden interruption plague and thwart every attempt.
The Norns were clearly mocking Loki at this point, he was positive of it.
And then the music changes and the Wedding March begins playing, followed closely by the Bridal Chorus.
Everyone was looking at the bride, a few people looking at Mobius to get his reaction as he watched her walk slowly down the aisle toward him on the arm of her father.
If anyone had bothered to look at Loki they would have seen him looking far more anxious and emotional than even Mobius. He was sweating bullets.
What was he going to do?? He couldn't let Mobius marry this woman after what he had just witnessed. There was no mistaking it, he'd gotten a very unfortunately clear view of Body Part A inserted and sliding in and out of Body Part B in a very deliberate rhythm from his angle and heard the telltale vocalizations that came along with it, though some mild attempt by both betrayers to stifle those sounds was being made.
But it was too late now! He should have been more forcefully, but he had been trying to preserve the dignity of the love of his life, and as much of his heart as he could possibly salvage by being gentle and quiet about telling him. If he had been more forceful, stopped the interruptions and insisted...
But he hadn't, had he? No, and now he was standing by while this woman, who had somehow completely set herself to rights between what he had seen in the cloakroom and now, married Mobius who had no idea he had already been cuckolded.
How many of the bridesmaids must also be in on this? She could not have fixed everything so perfectly in that little time all by herself and that buffoon she had had humping her wouldn't know what a mascara wand was if he's poked himself in the eye with it, let alone anything else he would have needed to know. The gown, her hair. Some things you couldn't do quickly without more pairs of hands and eyes.
Then again, he supposed, even if they had known what did he realistically expect them to do? They were her friends, not Mobius'.
When she and Mobius were facing the officiant, Loki stared directly at her with no hint of false cheer.
She gave him a small double take and a confused, displeased look.
Mobius just looked at him in confusion and concern.
Yes, Loki was sure he must look somewhere between a man possessed and a man on the brink of a cardiac arrest.
The officiant was speaking and Loki only caught bits and pieces. He felt as though he was having an out of body experience. But then he caught something he had forgotten all about.
"If anyone here among you feels any reason why these two should not be wed, let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
Loki's eyes went wide. He hadn't wanted to do it this way, but...
"I object!" Loki cried out, causing an uproar and the bride to gasp and Mobius to turn to him in shock.
"Loki, what is going on with you?? Are you alright?" Mobius asked, clearly thinking that Loki must be having a mental breakdown or that cardiac arrest Loki himself was thinking of earlier.
He still wasn't so sure that wasn't the case.
"Just before it was time for her to walk down the aisle, I witnessed the bride and Brad, one of the groomsmen, in the cloakroom having sex with each other," Loki blurted. He swallowed. Took a breath. None of his trademark eloquence.
He still felt like he was going to faint. Would Mobius hate him? Call him a liar? Tell him to get out? Marry her anyway and never speak to Loki again?
Suddenly, amongst the gasps and shouts from the guests and the shocked silence from everyone in the wedding party, including the bride and groom, the bride finally found her voice.
In the form of a very loud horror film scream.
Brad looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
And Mobius turned to look at his bride. "Is that true??"
"No! It never happened! How could you even ask me that!! He's making it up! Loki's always hated me!!"
"Loki wouldn't hurt me like this over a lie," Mobius said.
Loki felt as though he was going to cry. Mobius believed him!
Mobius is getting married and Loki is his best man. Everything is going great until Loki sees the bride getting busy in the cloakroom with one of the groomsmen and now Loki has to figure out how to tell Mobius.
Except things keep happening to prevent it until everyone is at the altar and Loki thinks he missed his chance to tell him. Until the officiant asks of anyone has any objections to the wedding and boy does Loki ever!
Too bad no one told him that the wedding doesn't legally count anyway until they officially submit the completed marriage license, which happens AFTER the wedding.
Lokius are in love with each other, they just each assumed their feelings weren't returned.
