Lokius. You could make this into Loki/Don, if you so wish because it fits in snugly that way, too. For Loki/Don, just change it to Don's wife before the divorce.

Lokius are best friends who both have feelings for each other, but have never confessed or done anything about it because Mobius has been married for the entire time they've known each other.
And Mobius loves and cares about his husband, he really does.
Loki hates Mobius's husband with the passion of 1000 suns, and it's only partially out of jealousy. Mostly, he hates his best friend's husband because the man is repugnant and isn't a good partner to Mobius. He frankly doesn't understand what Mobius saw in this louse to begin with.
But, while he does encourage Mobius not to be his husband's doormat, he doesn't go on the long diatribes of why he cannot stand the man out of respect for Mobius's feelings. He makes sure to tell Mobius when he shouldn't just accept disrespectful behavior from his husband (or anyone) and makes it clear he thinks Mobius could do far better, but he doesn't want to do or say anything that might cause Mobius to distance himself from Loki. He makes sure Mobius knows his door is always open and Mobius will always be welcome and Loki would do anything to help him should he ever need.
And then one day Mobius's husband asks Mobius for an open marriage. He claims he thinks it will spice things up and keep their marriage and their sex life fresh.
He also tells Mobius he is bored.
Mobius is hurt but after a long discussion that spanned three days, he finally gives in.
Loki was livid when he found out. Mobius was clearly very upset and admits that he only agreed because his husband pouted and stomped around like a child and guilted him about being selfish and not caring about his husband's feelings until he said yes.
Loki suspects that Mobius's husband has someone in mind already and, probably, has already been cheating on Mobius and just wanted permission to have an affair. Which he manipulated, bullied, and gaslighted Mobius into giving said permission, despite it being obvious he didn't want to and wasn't comfortable with it. That wasn't an open marriage, that wasn't an open relationship. That was coercion. And it was abusive. And Loki *hates* the man even more. For that, and for making Mobius cry.
Loki does not suggest that Mobius also begin seeing other people, and he does not offer himself up on the silver platter he wishes to. He won't take advantage of Mobius like that. If Mobius were anyone else, and Loki didn't love, care for, and respect him as much as he did, then he would have and wouldn't have had the least bit of shame about it.
Loki never claimed to be a saint. Far from it.
But Mobius was different, and far too important to him to be treated so callously. His husband had just manipulated him into letting him have an affair, Loki would not then use that as an opportunity to manipulate Mobius into his bed.
Mobius's husband found a bed partner rather rapidly, which only served to confirm Loki's suspicions about the man's motivations. And he didn't bother to be discreet. He was constantly talking to Mobius about the affair partner (Loki refuses to call him anything else, because Mobius's consent was not freely given), spent a lot of time with him, told Mobius all about their dates, spent lavishly on this other man, and was constantly comparing Mobius to this other man in a way that often made it clear he thought Mobius was lacking in many regards.
Loki had to suppress the urge to begin sharpening his daggers whenever he heard about it. He advised Mobius to leave the man, but of course he wouldn't. Mobius was too loyal for his own good sometimes.
But one day Mobius does decide that maybe he should also try to see other people. He reasoned that it might help him see things from his husband's perspective. It might help him just...in general.
His husband had been surprised and less than enthusiastic but agreed. Loki had not suppressed his smirk when hearing about it. Good. He hoped that needled and burrowed into that cretin's very brain. Clearly, in the moment, he had not been able to think up anything to say to try to preserve the double standard he clearly wanted to have in play here. He had not expected Mobius to also begin seeing other people.
Mobius met a woman on a dating app. Loki was extremely jealous, but he didn't let it show. Instead, he encouraged Mobius to go have a nice time with her.
And he did. He took her to dinner and a movie, and dancing afterward.
But in the end, he didn't sleep with her. He said they had both had a wonderful time and that she was a very lovely person but the spark had not been there. He had kissed her goodnight and delivered her safely into her Uber and then he had gotten his own Uber home.
This seemed to please Mobius's husband when he found out Mobius had not been able to bring himself to sleep with someone else.
What definitely didn't please Mobius's husband was the sound of Loki and Mobius having *extremely* loud sex next door two weeks later.
That might have been by Loki's design, since he had made sure they had sex outside on his backyard patio. Of course, nobody could see into his patio as it was covered and screened in with privacy screening ever since added the jacuzzi in last summer. His entire back patio was set up for entertaining very intimate guests.
Usually, of course, he took the actual sex indoors where they wouldn't disturb anyone with shouts of ecstasy, but tonight he very much wanted to disturb one very particular person.
He was rich, though, he could send all of the other neighbors apology gift baskets and consider it money very well spent.
After that night, Mobius filed for divorce from his cad of a husband and moved in with Loki. He did not let his husband simply keep the house next door, though. He insisted on selling *all* of their joint assets and splitting the money evenly.
A very lovely lesbian couple ended up buying the house, who made very good friends and neighbors.
As for Mobius's ex-husband, when his affair partner learned the truth about how he had treated Mobius, the affair partner dumped him and put him on blast on the internet. Mobius had been bringing in the majority of the money, so now the ex has to go to work and all of his co-workers dislike him because all he does is complain without any self-awareness about his divorce and his husband-stealing former next-door neighbor.
Lokius are having a grand time, though, and end up getting married.
