Happy Birthday Lady Pluto

whereas Lady Venus’ birthday recently was a good reminder in acting with love and grace despite life’s setbacks, i think from Lady Pluto- narrowly eclipsing Lady Neptune as the Figure I connect to the most!- i can learn to love what i have and be content with it.  She never gripes about Her solitude or Her loneliness, and accepts these terms with a dignity and devotion to them, while still being a person capable of love for the people nearest and dearest to Her.  and so i shall do the same :)

Honouring the Lady of Judgement

part 4b of the Serenitism Pantheon

this post was actually supposed to be written a few days ago but between travelling and a possible case of laryngitis i’ve been taking it easy as much as i can!  as always, this will be a long post and simply based on my observation and interpretations!

Prayer

These are topics that are suitable to ask Lady Pluto for guidance over:

Justice and Divine Judgement- as i said in an earlier post, i assign her to be the Lawkeeper of the Pantheon.  with only two persons able to make her check her powers [i am referring of course, to The Silver Lady and her daughter, The Small Lady], Lady Pluto will act without hesitation to ensure the Taboos she enforces remain in place.  In a much larger narrative [as time-travel is a bit of a gray area for me] i see this ruthlessness as her carrying out harsher punishment towards wrongdoers, whereas i would use The Silver Lady to seek forgiveness before retribution, for instance.

Banishment/Sealing- Lady Pluto was able to shut out Pharaoh 90 in another dimension by calling out the Space-Time Door to close at her command.  That makes Lady Pluto one hell of a barrier maiden- potentially the strongest one there is in the Pantheon.  I feel then that Lady Pluto would be best-suited for heavy-duty works that require the sealing away and banishment of a terrible, negative energy. Witch-jars come to mind first!

Time-based Requests- you knew this was coming sooner or later: Lady Pluto chief dominion is over Time, and since she technically has existed for millenia standing guard over the Space-Time Door, her wisdom is practically infinite.  It’s also safe to assume that she will only alter or stop time itself for situations that require the most drastic of actions, so it would be best to keep our ‘urgencies’ in check and ask for Lady Pluto’s aid in allowing things to happen in its own time- getting over a disappointment, or eagerly anticipating good news.  If it’s meant to happen, Lady Pluto has probably already seen it, and will see to its eventuality [in her own way].

Selflessness/Self-Contentment- this may seem like an odd one to throw in there, but here me out.  while ALL of the Ladies of the Pantheon have this element of selfless service to their mission and their Sovereign, it takes a special kind of girl to be able to do it for epoch upon epoch in absolute solitude [not even Ladies Uranus and Neptune have been around that long], watch the man she may have affection for marry his intended beloved, care for their daughter as her special friend, sacrifice herself to save everything in a time of crisis, and have her dying thoughts be consumed by the two people in the universe she loves the most.  Lady Pluto by all accounts should be a bitter and callous individual when we first meet her [and when it comes to her duties she is rather rigid] but she does all of this with all the love in her heart.  And even when she is reborn, we see her as a nurturing mother figure and nurse- always in the service of others, never herself or her interests.  Acting selflessly will always be a tough call, as it is often [and normal] to expect something coming out of it for ourselves.  Lady Pluto is a great example to have when you need to be reminded of the bigger picture.

Offerings And Altar Adornments

Candles- Black and Burgundy, or even a deep green [deeper than what would be used for Lady Jupiter, for instance]

Incense- like Lady Saturn, scents that invoke sacred spaces like myrrh or dragon’s blood.  i’d also include lilac, for something more affectionate.

Charms And Tokens- besides any Sailor Pluto-specific merchandise [her Garnet Orb would be great!] i’d strongly recommend keys, as they are a very important part of her motif.  a small ornate clock or similar timepiece would work well here as well.

additionally, anything with Pluto’s symbol is an added bonus.

Stones- my personal picks would be:

mahogany obsidian as a protection stone [and strongly associated with Pluto]

onyx for its color and additional protection properties [again, associated with Pluto]

garnet for its color and as a traditional stone for October

bloodstone, as a green gem with blood red spots, it’s a good visual fit!

selenite, a stone of love and devotion, especially considering her friendship with the young Chibiusa

The Lady of Judgement: Lady Pluto

Sailor Pluto/Princess Pluto/Meioh Setsuna

[part 4 of the Serenitism Pantheon]

this one has been a long time coming, mainly because i have found myself to have a deep affection for this figure- as a person of colour i didn’t realize that representation of my kinda was so sorely lacking until i stumbled across Sailor Pluto for the first time- and while i am not Japanese and i know that Sailor Pluto isn’t ~*black*~ her dark skin stood out like a beacon.. the first time i saw ‘myself’ in a series i enjoyed [my discovery of the X-Men and Storm came years later].  i’m rather protective of her as a character, and in fact have started working towards cosplaying her in the future, so now’s a good time as any to explore her place in the Pantheon: and you know the drill!  Red more under the cut!

Sailor Pluto’s origins are shrouded in secrecy- the ONLY Senshi described as a ‘goddess’ in canon, she is rumoured to have the blood of Cronus in her veins, or even be his child- and in fact she was a Senshi we were never supposed to know about.  Thanks to Chibiusa’s time-travel adventures to recruit Sailor Moon [or more apt, the past form of her mother, Neo-Queen Serenity], we are finally introduced to this solitary guardian of the Space-Time Door.  She proves to be a Senshi single-mindet in her duty to guard this sacred space [straight up attacking Sailors Moon, Venus and Tuxedo Mask for trespassing- thankfully Chibiusa stopped her!] as she has apparently been around since Princess Serenity was still very young, and has seen epoch after epoch go by from her outpost.  She is duly warned of the three taboos that she must never break, [to never move time, to never stray far from her post, and to never stop time itself] as such acts will cause the forfeiture of her life.

This might be a point of debate, but I believe that we are shown two versions of Sailor Pluto within the series.  As mentioned earlier, the one we are introduced to first has remained at the Space-Time Door all her life as bidden by Queen Serenity.  In the 30th century she is discovered by a runaway Chibiusa and forms a doting and maternal relationship with the young princess, gifting her with her initial signature item, Luna-P.  Chibiusa goes as far as to declare Pluto as her only friend, to the point where she gets extremely upset when she shows sins of intimacy with someone else [in this case her father King Endymion, who she maaaay have an unrequited love for], as well as having her death [by breaking the final taboo] be the sole trigger to not only save Chibiusa from her corruption as Black Lady, but become the trigger for her latent Senshi powers to be unlocked and to become Sailor ChibiMoon.  This version of Sailor Pluto is granted eternal slumber by Neo Queen Serenity for her sacrifice in battle, and it is unknown how this has affected the guardianship of the Space-Time Door.

The ‘second’ Sailor Pluto is reborn into the main timeline during the Mistress Nine/Pharaoh 90 saga as Meioh Setsuna, as keeper of one of the three talismans necessary to summon Sailor Saturn to the world [or preventing it, as the case was initially].  She awakens to her abilities in time to aid her fellow talisman-carriers Sailors Uranus and Neptune, and to serve the soon-to-be sovereign Sailor Moon.  This Pluto is still exceptionally maternal to Chibiusa [and to the infant Hotaru upon her reincarnation], exceptionally wise and dutiful to her mission and her princess, but aside from these similarities it doesn’t seem that she is physically tethered to her post as Guardian of the Space-Time Door as her other incarnation [she is still shown being able to close the doors on Pharaoh 90 and Sailor Saturn at the latter’s request].  As someone who very clearly presides over a place outside of space and time’s constructs, however, it’s not hard to believe that there was probably still a version of Sailor Pluto dutifully watching her post... but that’s an analysis for another time :)

These are the titles I use when referring to Sailor Pluto in my personal Practice:

Lady Pluto- an informal way to address her

Lady of Judgement- a personal title of mine: the duties of her post as Guardian of the Space-Time Door are quite absolute.  Also serves as a link to another God she shares with, the Greek God Hades [Pluto is his Roman counterpart]

Soldier of the Underworld/Reformation/Revolution- self-given titles, referencing her Realms of Influences [which does overlap with Lady Saturn’s a bit]

Guardian of Time- her explicitly given title by Queen Serenity while stationed at the Space-Time Door.  Lady Pluto also uses this title to refer to herself.

Your competition awaits," jibbed Pluto playfully, throwing out a hand towards the dishes the prince was holding and extracting from it one of the spoons they had used to eat with, holding it out from her chest like a sword and piercing his gaze with a challenging stare.

He froze, and then burst into gales of laughter, blue eyes crinkled shut. “My l-l-lady, I am- eheheh- I am s-sorry for laughing but- pfft- you do look quite-… comical with such a serious express- hee- and a- a spoon, of all things!” He was doubled over, one hand clinging tight the remaining dishes, the other on his knee, shoulders shaking. “Surely, you can’t intend to duel me like this? I dare say it would be cheating, making your opponent laugh himself stupid before engaging in such a task.” He exhaled deeply, still giggling in spite of his efforts to pull himself together enough to speak a coherent sentence.
