When the Grid was new, the Isos hadn’t appeared yet, and CLU was peaceful, Kryptor would help the engineering programs analyze patterns of structural damage in buildings and determine how to repair it, how long they had before the building would collapse, and the way it would fall if it did collapse. Sometimes he’d also go out to collapse sites and help the damage assessment teams figure out how to clear the rubble safely without causing secondary collapses.

One time, he was out analyzing the way a collapsed building had fallen, and he found a program that had been caught in the collapse and was severely damaged. There were no medics near enough for Kryptor to call them over, and even if there had been, the program was half derezzed already. They wouldn’t be able to do much.

Kryptor tried to save him by using a predictive algorithm to rebuild his code, but there wasn’t enough undamaged code left for such a thing to work properly. He prevented the program from derezzing, but also trapped him in a permanent state of being glitched and useless. The program Kryptor saved doesn’t interpret environmental data correctly and doesn’t remember his function, and now wanders around the Grid aimlessly, mostly unaware of what’s going on around him.

Kryptor would say that’s the biggest mistake he’s made, and that it would have been better to let the program derez than to save him by making him useless.

Yali seldom trains, per se, but she has millenia of experience. As such, her intuition is normally pretty good. When it fails her, it’s often because she’s being wrong-genre savvy.

Yali isn’t a neat person by nature, and likes to surround herself with things that could raise inspiration. Her room is liberally decorated with empty coffee cups, magazines, more portable pieces of art (both her own and other people’s), and random items which appealed to her or caught her whimsical attention at one time or another.

kyanite:an anger headcanon

Her anger tends to run cold: she’s slow to rouse, but holds grudges for a very long time.
