I recently had a disturbing phone call with my mom (white, Canadian born, *highly educated in humanities*) who chastised me for comparing the ICE detention camps to the work camps that evolved into death camps under Hitler’s regime. She argued that treatment of oppressed groups elsewhere are worse and more worthy of attention (Australia, North Korea, Russia). I know those other atrocities are horrific too. But how do I arguethat we are seeing a repeat of the Weimar Republic?
