003 | Give me a character: Jack O'Neill

How I feel about this character: Jack O’Neill is everything. To be in such a structured career, he doesn’t have that stereotypical soldier mentality. He’s laid back, first to crack a joke. As someone who doesn’t take much serious, I relate. He easily has some of the best dialogue on the show, hands down. He’s so protective of his team, never leaves a man behind. Duty is important to him but at the end of the day, the lives of those he loves is something he can’t ignore. Would 10000% die for this man.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Samantha Carter. I feel like since day one, she’s been somewhat of a moral compass for him. She challenges him, makes him think beyond big guns and blowing things up. They would die for each other in a heartbeat if they had to. And even when they both thought that their hearts belonged to someone else, they were still each other’s “always” and I love that shit, ok. Lord have mercy, bless this pairing.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Daniel Jackson. That nerd is his best friend. Like Sam, Daniel challenges him. I know a lot of the fandom shit them romantically and I could 100% see why. They compliment each other pretty well. Their banter is the best. And as someone who ships Sam/Jack, I’ll even admit that when something happens to Daniel... he freaks out more than if something were to happen to Sam. Their friendship is solid. I love it a lot.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He had his vulnerable moments, but I don’t feel like they allowed him to truly show it very much. It’s pretty standard writing for a solider, though, so I get it??? He lost his son in a tragic way, his marriage ended. He’s been through hell more times than he can count. Let the guy show some emotion, idk.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I hated how there was no transition to his leaving the show. A new season started and he was just gone. Unless there was something I missed???? Idk. Truthfully I hated that he left at all, but I would have preferred some kind of transition. I was very confused at the start of season 9.

Favorite friendship for this character: See above. Daniel Jackson.

Okay I've been putting off watching the last few episodes of Legends because I'm scared sh*tless over what they're going to do with John. Looks like you've finished the finale. Did they do the most out of character thing possible and kill him? Or did he survive after all?

well, i mean, if you want my honest non-spoilery review i can sum it all up as this:

so basically in 6x14 they kill him. and they kill him in the most stuuuuupid way that literally is a parallel of the way they killed both cas and dean in supernatural. like. they kill him like dean in that john gets """tricked""" by that bishop guy into poisoning himself and tells astra that there are """no more tricks"" which is so fucking. bad. and then he gets sucked up by vines like (: you know who (:

and well. in 6x15, for the finale, uh he basically comes back as like. a spirit at first which is so. fucking WEIRD but it is kind of funny in retrospect where he has this WHITE tie on it's kind of funny. but then at the end of the episode he has a moment with zari for REAL where it turns out the fountain spat him back out because john made another deal with a demon to get him out of the fountain and so he's like, alive and he's out there again. but it basically just ends like that for him. he walks away and like, phases out of the timeline.

it just really falls flat in comparison to the other stuff he's done but like. i GUESS. u know.
