((Oh, and sorry to Hendel for not replying to our RP over on archaeologicallass. I may or may not reply tonight.))
"Thank you. I don’t mean to be a bother, though, my apologies if I’ve interrupted something." Hershel said, hoping that the stammered words were not caused by a fear of him. He entered, though, with a bit of reluctance - not exactly certain how to approach the woman in a manner that wouldn’t make her nervous or upset.
"I wasn’t entirely sure where - although Gressenheller has crossed my mind a bit - but I’d hoped to teach Botany. I’m… well, I have a bit of a fair hand at it." He chuckled, gesturing at the vines on his back. "The issue, though, is that I haven’t been involved in any schools since I was young, and I don’t exactly operate well socially." Which was putting it mildly. At least once a month he could be found threatening to kill somebody. Which he didn’t feel needed to be said.
"As for my background, I’m not entirely sure what you mean. I never managed to go back to high school, I have problems with my temper… And a bit of an issue of being a sociopath…" He added quietly, under his breath. He didn’t want to NOT be a sociopath, exactly, but imagined it would be a deciding factor in his getting anywhere in relation to becoming a teacher.
"Oh, not at all. It’s good to have company, to be honest," she smiles in reply, flitting over to the kitchen to put the kettle on, pulling a chair out from the table for him as she does so. She listens closely as he speaks, all the while setting the table with supplies for tea - two cups and saucers, a bowl of sugar lumps, creamer, a tin of biscuits - before sitting at the table herself, thinking it worth it to relax a moment while she waits for the water to finish boiling.
"Gressenheller? That’s where I teach, actually," she smiles. "I’m sure they’d be thrilled to have a new botany teacher - the science program there is quite strong, but they do specialize more in experimental sciences, rather than the natural sciences…"
She thinks another moment as he continues. “Hm. Well, I assume you realize you’d have to get your G.E.D in order to teach… but if you could manage that, I could perhaps speak to the Gressenheller dean to see if you could get a position as a teachers’ assistant… possibly not in botany, but regardless, just that experience will do you well once you’re applying for a more permanent position.” Giving him a concerned, albeit pleasant, look, she adds, “I would recommend working on your temper, though, if you really think it might be a problem… you know how kids are, they’ll take advantage if they catch wind of such a thing…”
With just a slight amount of hesitation, he sat, the vines on his back twisting and coiling in order for him to sit flat against the back. Always he felt uncomfortable when people invited him into their home - he was too used to people hating him, perhaps. He likely didn't have enough normal social experience.
"Thank you." He said, before continuing. "I'm not sure I'd do well in any kind of experimental science. All I really know is plants. 'Experimental science' isn't quite my forte. Unless you count cross-breeding plants." He had that one plant he'd bred - the one that grew at night, and had glowing spots on it's leaves. But did that count, at all? He doubted it.
"And, I know. There's still the issue of how I... well, admittedly..." He said slowly. "I've never actually finished high-school. Which is why I was rather hoping there was another way of becoming a teacher." The notion of going back to school for a year put him off somewhat, as he was certain he'd be constantly stared at, at the very least. How he hated being stared at.
"To be honest, though, I don't quite know how to reign in my anger. Perhaps it's a weakness of mine; a short temper."

He'd always been one of them.
Even as he traipses the jungle on his knuckles, rough and worn, he keeps an eye on the troupe. At least, the younger ones. His childhood friends and his close family he doesn't worry about. They're strong, but not as strong as him.
Except the leader, a silverback with scars from fighting with jaguars and the like. He is the only one this beast will bow his head to, and even then he gives him a challenging, but respectful stare from under his heavy brow.
When he was younger, he questioned his allegiance. Why was his nose pointed, and theirs wide? Why wasn't he covered with fur, and instead had scales down his long body, so much like that of a snake? It took consolation from his mother to assure him that he belonged.
A lot of consolation.
Either way, he decides to go out of the bounds and explore, galloping off on his calloused knuckles through the brush. He'd heard rumblings of strange new creatures arriving on shore, so he might as well be the sentry while everyone else sleeps.
