Hard agree wrt Aranessa not loving Julien Like That but him having a whole unrequited situation. In your version of this headcanon 1. does Aranessa know? 2. Did Thjazi?
I don't think either of them do - I imagine this developing after the Falconer's Rebellion was over. I suspect Julien captured Thjazi out of both dedication to the Sundered House side of the Falconer's Rebellion, and devotion to Aranessa and belief Thjazi had betrayed or hurt her, and I think that's far more interesting than romantic jealousy. I think feelings for Aranessa would have developed sometime in his 20s but pre-joining the Barrowguard, when she was basically the only person in the world who wasn't a blood relative who actually liked him, and I don't think it's something he'd ever really act on - this is much more like, a lens through which I like to interpret him.

Even unspoken, Athelas is still giving his lord an order. So like, Athelas will talk up and down about how he and Zero can never be equals blah blah but his behavior shows us not even he quite believes that.
This is backed up by them moving to leave "as one." They are a united front!
It was also my hope that by don't be stupid, the reader gets the impression that Zero might have more social power, but Athelas outstrips him in experience. Their whole relationship is a mess of unequal power dynamics in every direction.
