14. Book that had the greatest impact on you this year? This is tough! I’m tempted to say In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan, because reading it felt like I’d found something that was very much for me. But I only read it a couple weeks ago, so it’s fresh. I’d say that or Goldenhand by Garth Nix. Because of Goldenhand, I decided to reread all of the Old Kingdom books, and I did, and it was wonderful. and doing so fixed my brain in a place where I mostly wanted to read books like the old kingdom series, and that’s basically what I did for the rest of the year.

some things:

1. it’s very gay. like, extremely 2. murder is the only crime that ever happens 3. everyone gets at some point either (a) accused of murder, or (b) murdered 4. jury trials aren’t a thing that happens, you win or lose a case on your ability to sway a very sweet, slightly dim old judge 5. cases routinely involve channeling the spirits of dead friends
