Tried out a new to Lafayette chain BBQ restaurant- Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. The meats were great- ribs and brisket. The rub on the ribs was really tasty. The sides were meh. They all tasted like they came from a can or a grocery deli. The only yummy side was the onion tangles (not pictured). They were thin and really crispy. There was a little cornmeal in the batter, which added a terrific texture. I’d suggest getting a meat sandwich with their onion tangles. Skip the sides, for sure.
Fact: Spring rolls are the best summer food ever.

Had dinner at a new place called The Sizzling Monkey last night. It was aight. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but if I was downtown, it would be an option. Service was outstanding. The food was solid and tasty, but nothing really knocked my socks off, ya know?
Dinner at Newk's Eatery last night. It's a chain in the Deep South. They probably have 100 or so locations across maybe 10 or so states. Think McAlister's or Jason's Deli. The concept at Newk's is the same but with a few "Southern staples," like the pimento cheese sandwich in the middle photo. Some things were meh- the cake, the steak sandwich. Others were okay- the coleslaw, the mac-n-cheese. And some were downright good- the pimento cheese sandwich, the tomato basil soup. I won't be clamoring to return, but it's a decent, quick option for us on nights when I don't feel like cooking. But it still wouldn't be our first option. Three quarters of a thumb up.
