i’ve been on a bender of making texture-layered headers for my characters, so here’s the first set--the four main characters of Laudata Fidelis and following books. Lafi’s our POV character, Amy her new housemate, Nagendra an angry and mysterious girl from Lafi’s past. Sage won’t show up in LF--at least, they’re not planned to--but they play as important a role as any of the others.
☆☆☆ OC of your choice?
i think this was for oc facts. here goes nothin
★ Lafi’s favorite food is tomato soup. She especially likes tomato rice soups, and she prefers a bit of creamy tomato soup poured over her pasta over marinara sauce.
★ Each song on Lafi’s iPod has a spell attached to it; she can choose when she plays the song whether to activate it or not. She can call a song into play or into the queue by humming or whistling it.
★ Lafi can never remember her dreams, only the fact that she did have a significant dream.
Blue, time and eyes for the wip meme!
Blue: from a wip about the Normandy Musketeers under house arrest:
He swears he’s never seen the woman before, but there’s something damn familiar about those brown eyes and the set of that jaw. He blinks. “Duke? They let you out?”
The woman laughs. “Close, but no cigar.” Her voice isn’t Duke’s. The metal is there, but there’s no blue, just a silvery white like the color of most of her hair. “Nice to meet you, Commander. I’m Captain Hannah Wilder. Don’t tell my kid, but they sing your praises every time we talk. Which hasn’t been often lately.” She folds her arms and sits her weight on one leg in a pose so reminiscent of her only child that Cade almost expects her next words to have that blue streak. “Care to tell me why that is, Shepard?”
Time: from a Laudata Fidelis wip:
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Lafi snaps. “They’ve told me plenty.”
“They haven’t told you what matters,” Nagendra says. For the first time, Lafi can’t hear any hostility in her voice. “I know you.”
Eyes: from the next chapter of queen of nothing, king of the world:
Duke dug their teeth into their bottom lip, reaching up to trace with their fingertips a scar across the bridge of Vega’s nose and over his cheekbone. He ran his thumb down the long scar on the side of their face in slightly bemused reciprocation, even as Duke’s thumb moved to softly follow the path of a scar that began as a nick in his bottom lip, and his eyes softened in understanding. They were both scarred, and they were both looking for comfort.
for your description meme: 5, 7, and 13 for Lafi!
5. Their crying
Lafi stubbornly tries not to cry, denies that she is to anyone who notices, and fiercely tries to distract herself with busywork. She hates most the moment when she can’t hold it back any longer, when there are too many tears to angrily wipe away, when she has to hug herself and just sob.
7. Their interactions with their pets, if they have them
Lafi doesn’t have any pets; usually a mage’s familiar is their only pet, and Lafi doesn’t have one. With other people’s pets, she usually keeps her distance. Seeing the affection between people and their animals hurts for her. She should have that affection too, but she can’t.
13. Them in formalwear
Lafi hates her formal uniform. Too stiff, too constraining, and marks her as an apprentice despite her power. She behaves, though. She doesn’t fidget. It’ll just remind her how uncomfortable she is in the uniform. She gets it off her as soon as she can.
character description ask meme
"Midwinter - invincible, immaculate."
There was something about going out the morning after a snow that Lafi relished. The sparkle on the snow reminded her of magic, of the possibilities of it and the new day. There was something about lying down in the snow, looking up at a sky without a single cloud in it, that made her feel strong. Safe.
Midwinter was invincible.
--
There was something about going out the morning after a snow that made Nagendra a little bit afraid. She didn’t want to ruin the sparkle on the perfect surface with her steps. She wanted to make that magic last as long as she could. It was so tempting to lie down in it, to mess it up, to make her mark on it, but...she couldn’t bring herself to touch it.
Midwinter was immaculate.
pick, uh, someone from lafistory for the date meme?
Pros of dating Lafi:
Affectionate as fuck
Protective as fuck–will defend you if you’re in trouble, even if she doesn’t know you
Will probably write songs for you
Will definitely make small magic things for you
Is the kind of person to say “hey I saw this cool rock and it reminded me of you so I picked it up for you”
Cons of dating Lafi:
Blunt as hell
Does not do well with the emotional and social cues thing
Is still working out false-superiority stuff

dude i need to start writing lafi's story again tbh
ok so the main character is introduced as Laudata Fidelis "Lafi" Ness, a teenaged loose cannon agent/student of the most lethal supernatural assassination guild in the world, and a demigirl with a major memory block from when she was three years old. she's being sent to a conventional private high school because she's scared off an average of two tutors a year at hq. another, younger girl from a different branch is being sent to that high school too. Lafi is eighteen and a senior, and the younger girl, Amy, is fifteen and a junior. They are housed in the same boardinghouse, run by imperious but loving Irish matriarch Mamie Tate and Mamie's mixed-race daughter Kenna.
Amy and Lafi meet and get to know each other, and Lafi slowly reclaims her memories from before the block: she lived in a cave, a wild child, and protected by a beast that she can't seem to remember. One night, Lafi wakes from a dream drenched in sweat. She doesn't remember until she sees Amy's face at breakfast the next morning: the dream was about dragons.
