Day 28: Ribbonette The first of an idea I'm playing with: magical girls in a high, urban fantasy, male dominated setting. (I'll try to be brief) In this world they have magical stones that give people, mostly men, magic and weapons based on the color: blue=knights, black=slayers, green=druids. So instead of soldiers or princes traveling to save a town, they just kind of knock on the town alter and a stone chooses a hero; Women can only be one of two colors and still only make a third of those choosen, oh and their armour is for show, not function. (Think every fantasy mmorpg you've ever looked at and turned away in disgust) The story is that the system isn't working anymore. A new kind of monster is destroying the usual heroes and everyone is freaked out. The crown princess makes a bold move and installs the only stone they've never used: pink. The first pink stone to appear chooses Lailace, a teenage girl, which is unheard of. Even crazier is that she doesn't seem to have an obvious ability, she's just pink with lots of ribbons. Everyone, even Lailace, thinks it's a joke because she's WAY too girly and cute to fight monsters. Still, she joins a group of older heroes to take on the monster. Halfway through the other heroes realize they can't do it, but Lailace has discovered her ability. She can control her ribbons, the girliest part of her armour. She goes on and defeats the monster, proving the pink stones are what they need. And that's what I've got right now. I have 14 ideas for the girls and four more sketched. I want to draw as many as I can this year and see if I can get the pieces together to make full stories. It'll all be tagged under "#the maiden project" for now.
