Once a year, at the Lajitas Crossing, TX, the border is opened for the day as both Texas and Mexico share the Rio Grande in celebration and protest against the militarization of the border. A day filled with love and community.

NO WALL. NO WIRE. NO ROADS. NO LIGHTS. KEEP BIG BEND WILD AND FREE.

03/05/21 - Lajitas, TX - THE PAYOFF - My favorite hiking trails are the ones that come with a payoff. I remember being frustrated at times on the Appalachian Trail after spending a couple of hours hiking to the top of a mountain only to find it so shrouded with tree cover or fog that there was nothing to see: in other words, no payoff. Not so after our hike to the local viewpoint this morning: we were rewarded with this stunning view of the Rio Grande flowing through an arid land on a blue sky day. Life is good.
