This Show.
I just finished watching it and I have so many feelings.
you know, I kept expecting them to mess things up. like, add unnecessary drama as they usually do in shows. but they didn't. they kept it in the line everytime and I fucking loved it.
when Andrew learns about Victor, I was scared that he is going to be outed against his will. that Andrew is gonna spread rumours and ruin Victor's life. but he didn't. even the most assholish character in the show knew limits. even he was decent enough.
the relationship between Derek and Benji. I have to say, I'm kinda tired of the trope that the first guy a gay finds turns out to be his soulmate and they live happily ever after. no. it doesn't work that way. gay couples also have struggles and they do breakup. I loved the fact that they explored the dynamics and complexities of gay relationships.
when Victor is in New York, at the gay club. I kept expecting them to have a fuck up, him being outed against his wish, some homophobes attacking the place or something, but they didn't. Victor had the most amazing night of his life and found a family.
overall, the Reality of the show. it didn't feel like I was watching a show. it honestly felt like a reflection of my own life in so many ways. there was drama, but not in excess. there was heartbreak and happy moments and surprises and spontaneity and love.. all in the Perfect Proportion. the reason why I usually don't like to watch TV shows is due to the excess and unrealistic amount of drama they put in. but here it felt so right. so good.
every character's life and their reasons for being the way they are was thoroughly explored (and I believe will be further in S2). I especially loved the scene where we learn about Lake and how her mother groomed her to believe that social status defines your entire life, which was why she was so concerned with those things.
Pilar Salazar. need I say more?
I'll repeat myself here, it's so. fucking. realistic. in every goddamn way.
“The truth is, that little nerd makes me happy. Talking to him makes me happy, kissing him makes me happy, making him happy makes me happy.”
I did tell Mia about us.
