Happy endings aren’t guaranteed
Practically speaking, he should have done it all over the phone, but that just felt brutal. Maybe he wanted to prove to himself that he wasn’t a coward. Not that courage required one to put themselves in physical danger, but Adrian wasn’t about to give up body language and facial cues during perhaps the most intense conversation of his life. He did keep himself on the other side of the coffee table, just in case Trevor reacted poorly. It was enough of an obstacle that he would at least be able to see an attack coming and make a break for it.
