Trevor wasnât sure why he was compelled to disguise the intensity of the joy the simple understanding brought him, but he reined in his reaction from tearful hugging to a broad grin. At his own admission, Adrian wanted to be pushed tonight, but Trevor didnât want to overwhelm him early.

Adrian gripped Trevorâs shoulders and dragged him to his feet with a growl. Now that they were standing, Trevor could see Hector a few feet away, wan and ghostlike. Over Adrianâs shoulder he watched Hector clutch his hammer; then he saw the hellhounds stepping out of the shadows. Adrian hissed, stealing back his attention.
Hector has the keys, but he doesnât have a clue.
Of all the ways to realize you're a vampire, knocking your ass out trying to cross a threshold uninvited had to be the most embarrassing. To Adrian's credit, turning someone into a vampire accidentally was exceptionally difficult to doâunless you were Trevor Belmont, apparently.
Because life is difficult and busy, and my readers are patient angels that I respect and appreciate so very much, here are some wild snippets I found on my Drive just now. Iâm mostly sure I cut these from Word of the Fates stuff? Please enjoy!!
Snippet the first:
He pushed back the sleeve of his shirt, and indicated the barest trace of silvery scar that lingered on his forearm. âI know you donât remember, but when you first woke up, when it was just your body and not yet your mind, this is what you sought out. I didnât want to frighten you by offering myself first.â Adrian felt himself begin to flush. âBut itâs still available to you.â Christ, look at you. Worried about coming on too strong after you stripped him of his humanity not even a week ago.
Trevor set down the cup on the floor and took Adrianâs arm. He ran his thumb over the faded markings with disbelief. âIâm sorry.â
âWhat?â Did Trevor think he was blaming him?
âFor biting you? I swear, sometimes I wonder if that stupid pretty head of yours is filled with sawdust.â He was grinning. Apparently Adrian was bearing enough guilt for the both of them.
Snippet the second:
âAdrian, for fuckâs sake, wake up.â The Belmontâs attempt to gradually rouse him failed as soon as he took to shaking the dhampirâs shoulder.
âOw,â he mumbled. Trevor quickly let go as Adrian rolled back onto his stomach.
âI was being gentle!â Trevor was sitting up in bed, fully clothed. Adrian doubted it was even midnight yet. He groaned into the pillow.
âFine then. I suppose our dear guests will just have to starve, much like myself. Alas, to be-â Adrian cut off the monologue and shoved Trevor to the side as he begrudgingly sat up.
âYour hair is hilarious.â
âThis was easier when you couldnât see me.â Trevor smirked and Adrian roughly ran his fingers through the mess on his head. âYou seem to forget that not everyone is nocturnal by nature.â
âYou seem to forget that you promised me a hunting trip.â
âI would never.â Adrian painted his voice with mock incredulity.
âYouâre not just afraid Iâll be better at it than you?â Trevor raised an eyebrow and Adrian rolled his eyes.
âYou may be a master of a slew of weapons, and a skilled brawler-â
âYou flatter me.â Trevor held a hand over his heart.
âIâm not finished. But youâve never hunted something with claws and fangs. Itâs new weapons, a new set of instincts to learn.â As much as Adrian enjoyed the back and forth, and recognized that this was an important outing, he still wanted to sleep, and was fighting hard to keep his eyes open.
âHm.â Trevor inspected his claws with faux interest. âSeems pretty straightforward to me.â
âIâm sure Icarus said the same thing before he dropped out of the sky.â Adrian moved to get out of bed.
âOh, you think this is hubris?â Trevor crossed his arms.
âWell, youâre a cocky bastard whoâs playing with shiny new toys. Am I missing something?â Adrian was absently considering which socks would be best suited to the weather and did not expect to be suddenly crowded against the chamber wall.
âI donât know, are you?â Trevorâs voice in his ear was more breath than sound. Adrian cursed his traitorous pulse. Since Trevor had discovered his new aural acuity, heâd been relentless in noting what actions got a rise out of Adrian, in any sense.
Adrian kept his breathing even. âThe fact you have all the trimmings of a deadly predator doesnât doesnât guarantee anything.â
âInteresting theory.â Trevor pushed forward, pressing a knee between Adrianâs legs. He met the other manâs gaze with a wicked glint in his eyes. âAre you willing to put that to the test?â
Breathless, Adrian pushed back on Trevorâs shoulders, herding him toward the bed. They could afford a brief distraction before they set out.
Trevor misses his old cloak. Not because it reminds him of anyone or anything.
For the first couple weeks it was almost nice. Honestly, it was probably for the best that he didn't think about the mound of white fur. It meant they were keeping busy, slaying monsters and helping people, and there wasnât time to linger on thoughts of wolves and ghosts. But memories crept in, like water soaking through his boots.
