#lakehancock it’s location is in the #polk Upland area which is nestled between the #winterhaven Ridge and #lakeland Ridge. The Southwest Florida Water Management District finds this lake as an #ecological importance throughout #southwest #florida as its part of the upper #peaceriver watershed. One of the largest lakes in #polkcounty it spans over 4,573 acres. The center of the cities of #bartow #lakeland and #winterhaven form 12 mile sides, an equilateral triangle with Lake Hancock over 25% of that triangle. Shallow in depth, the average is 4 feet with a maximum depth of 16 feet. Surrounding the lake, cypress forests are found with an understory of primarily red maple and black willow. The lake also has a substantial alligator presence along it’s shorelines, as they feed on one of the largest colonial wading bird rookeries #centralflorida possesses.
