Ooo Laken's comment makes me very curious about how they would have reacted in Chris' situation, maybe wandering around town after a fight with their dad and getting picked up by WRU at the same age, then training and Branch, then Nat and Jake's safehouse, then- maybe the same college or would things have been different beforehand? I'd like to believe a certain redheaded ray of sunshine would have come into their life at some point.

Laken would have been hell on bare feet through the entire process. It would have taken a LOT of drugging to keep them calm enough to even go through training, they would have been stubborn in ways Chris just wasn't, fundamentally, capable of being - although Chris lasted much longer in solitary than Laken would have, once he shattered he couldn't hold any of himself together. Laken would be a little better at breaking early but breaking less thoroughly, if that makes sense.

They would have been constantly trying to escape Oliver and probably sent back for refurb, or actually managed to run away successfully and more or less found themself on Jake and Nat's doorstep out of sheer good luck later on.

Laken probably saw him get REAL WEIRD once hearing someone talk about playing a game and wisely chose not to bring any up after that, although they didn't know why.

Nate and Danny is my favorite. I love Nate as this closed-off man who has withdrawn into himself as a coping mechanism that is drawn out by Danny, and is able to rediscover life as worth living because he sees how hard Danny fights even when it's hopeless just to survive. And I love Nate caring for Danny and Danny caring for Nate and the ways they hold each other up, as well as them as an example of a long term partnership.

Second choice would be Laken and Chris. I love Chris getting his love story and someone who respects and understands his asexuality and who finds a way to build a romantic life with him by acknowledging and working within that framework. And I love that Laken brings a lot of strength out in Chris.

I forget if you have a face claim for Laken. But I came across this creator on tiktok and they're near exact how I imagine Laken. Your thoughts?

Oh, nice! I do have a faceclaim but I don't make it public because the person is a private individual, so I don't think it would be good to spread their face around Tumblr without their consent. But Laken was based on them in a lot of ways from the start - a confident, stunning nonbinary indigenous queer firecracker human.

That said, I always say - if you have a different way of viewing my OCs than I do, that's just kind of the magic of writing. And I LOVE the person you're picturing! They would be perfect for Laken, too.

Has Laken ever triggered Chris to the point they hear the "vocalisations"?

Yes, and they were actually horrified at how natural and genuine it sounded, even though they knew it was fake almost immediately.

Chris and Laken-- when do you each think the other looks the most beautiful?

"When, when, when they wake up," Chris says, smiling in a shy sort of way, lavender hair in his eyes. He sways lightly back and forth, tapping on his stomach, looking content for the moment.

Laken snorts. "I do not. My hair always looks crazy-"

"I, I, I like it like, um, like that."

"Pffft." Laken sighs, but they're grinning, too. "In any case... Mi rayito de sol-"

They say it just to make Chris blush, which he does, ducking his chin, smile widening.

"-is most beautiful when he looks like he looks right now."

I could definitely see that in a couple of characters! Nova, yes, but I honestly also see Liam Harker/Pre-Kauri Kauri being into whump for the dramatic emotional beats. He would have been all about emotional whump and probably lowkey into noncon whump.

I bet Laken was kind of into it too but after meeting Chris and learning what had happened to him, they dropped out of the community and just don't really know whether or not to tell Chris or not.

They do, but the person is a private person and I don't share their photos. Well, they are kind of a public figure, but not enough that I would feel comfortable sharing anyway.
