She knew it was irrational. She knew that being angry that he actually had to go and potentially save lives wasn't fair. Some days though, she really hated his job. She hated the long, lonely nights, or the days she had to do everything on her own only to have him come home to eat, shower and sleep. Sure, there were perks to his shift working like the days off, but that just wasn't enough sometimes for her to overlook all the problems she had with his job. To be honest, the route of it all was fear. Her fear that one day he just wouldn't come home. That she'd get the phone call any partner of someone in a high risk job feared. When he'd first started, every time the phone had rung while he was out had her heart in her stomach. That had eased, but it was always there, at the back of her mind. 

The sandwich was uneaten, and would have to be thrown. The candles she had lit had burnt out, and left messy pools of wax on the dining table. She had tried to wait up for him, but eventually she couldn't fight her drooping eyes any longer. Especially since knowing she'd have to be up early with a very energy draining child.Curled into the couch, with a blanket only half covering her, slinky silk nightdress on display. Her ate evening plan ruined. So was her sleep, to be honest. It was broken and restless, as it always was when he was late home. That fear bubbling away under the surface. To be honest, the frustration and annoyance was easier to feel. Easier to deal with. Even if it wasn't as rational.
