Austin --> Boston! Auditions Continue...
I am stoked for these auditions after last week's teaser! Hey there, Shankers! We've missed you!
Love that we're starting with ballroom dancers! Ashley Goldman and Phillip Kudryavstev (had to pause the DVR to type that one) are adorable! Ashley especially is perfect for the show. They "used to date"? Hmmmm. Oh man that was so awesome! So much chemistry, my god! And both of them have skillz for dayzzzz! It's really amazing how much Phillip came alive when he danced, especially after essentially not saying anything in the interview. Didn't need Nigel's confirmation to type out they're going to Vegas! Duh. I see (at least) one of them in Top 20 - you can quote me.
I'm not quite sure what to make of Natalie Vilos' lamp prop. I do love her bright red shoes though. She didn't do much of anything, but I very much appreciated Adam's use of the lampshade and the #LampDance hashtag.
I'm loving this beat box dance combo thing in John Tesoriero's audition. So cool, unique, and creative! The beat boxer was fantastic, and John was pretty good too! Not good enough for Vegas yet, but definitely worth a shot at chore because he's so entertaining.
Katlyn Rodriguez's brother is so cute, and I adore him for standing in for her partner who bailed! She should probably put on some more clothing (or at least not nude fabric), but she's an alright dancer. Jeremy was killin' it up there. It was hard to even watch Katlyn because he was hamming it up and having a blast up there. They sent her to choreo which makes sense given the situation. Hope she does well!
Jennifer Jones sob story is unfortunately not uncommon, but I think it's actually the first time I've seen it mentioned on the show. Great song choice! She's gorgeous and a great technician, and I liked that ballet-ish jazz style she did. "TV is gonna love you" says Nigel. Truth. And she's cute and fun, I like her a lot. Vegas, and I'm thinking Top 20 as well.
Montage of good dancers included an absolutely adorable fratty looking guy with dark hair and a maroon tank top that I think could be in Top 20 solely based on his good looks. He's going to Vegas, and I'll look for him there!
Tommy Tibball and his dance studio family are adorable and HOT DAMN the boy can dance! His feet practically folded in half on his toe points! He's so much like Billy Bell (and Jakob Karr, as Nigel points out). He's also got an incredible center like Travis or Kent. Adam is pretty much writhing in his seat watching him. I like how they did a dramatic pause and made him wait. As if he'd be going anywhere but straight to Vegas. Top 20, pretty please!
Boston, you're easily the strongest city thus far. What else you got for me???
Jennie Begley is obviously going to be good, but her body is distractingly skinny. Great audition, and her brother watching what he invested in was awesome. She's clearly a total pro, and I can see her doing really well on the show. No to choreo = yes to Vegas!
Ryan Ramirez is doing the choreo teaching this time! Hi Ryan! As for the results, John is out but Katlyn is in. I think John will be back though, he was keeping up with Ryan as his partner for sure.
Jason Kidd is HOT. And he got 5th place in the Dance Olympics (sidebar: what are those??). He's pretty freaking amazing. You can pretty much see Adam writing a role for him in Step Up 8 or 9. Straight to Vegas and well deserved!
Shannon Tarantino looks like she could be a distant cousin of Sonya Tayeh, and she dances like she wants Sonya to choreograph for her. She's an absolutely beautiful dancer and did a couple of moves there that I have never seen before, which at this point is rare. Totally agree with Adam that she has a total "sense of effortlessness" about her dancing. Loved how Nigel just casually slipped in her ticket to Vegas there.
Jean Bersten is auditioning again (S6) with his wife Elena who just had a baby 6 months ago! Great audition, great chemistry, easy choice to go straight to Vegas.
I pretty much cried straight through the entire Ernest "Ennouk" Williams package and audition. He showed such a wide range of both dance and emotion and really put himself out there. Truly a a great audition. they send him to choreo, which he will obviously ace.
Another montage of good dancers, and at least one familiar face.
Alexis Juliano - girl tapper! YES! And a GREAT audition! She used he whole stage, and she was so cute to watch! I liked that Nigel complimented the quietness in the end of her routine. I also adored the fact that she started doing Salsa when Nigel mentioned they hadn't seen her do anything else. Her reaction alone was worth a ticket to Vegas!
Anthony Bryant is back. I don't know why they continue to give him screen time. Maybe it's for the outfits? Not sure what that silent thing was at the end, but ok then. Yes to choreo, and he says no? Ok buddy, that IS your choice. Good riddance.
Weird dancer montage is weird. There's one in every city, this one looked especially weird. Bunny girl? No thanks.
Anthony Savoy looks awesome. THOSE LEGS. And what a beautiful man. I literally just crossed my arms and stared into the screen for that whole audition. Absolutely stunning. He's a professional dancer and his company doesn't know he auditioned, but they're going to be missing him for awhile when he's on the show in Vegas. Absolutely loved the juxtaposition of his response of being "sent to choreo" vs. Anthony Bryant's. He accepted it so gracefully. What a gem.
Loving this ballroom montage! Solo ballroom auditions are rare, but it's important they can dance alone when they get to the show. Kate Kapshandy is dancing with Max (S5) and she's pretty much made to be a ballroom dancer. Effortless, stunning, sexy but not in a I'm trying too hard way. She genuinely looks like she's having a blast out there. I really love how understated her talent was! Mary is diggin' it and Adam sent her straight to Vegas. DUH.
Toshiko Nakazawa is just adorable in his interview with Cat. And his gold vest and pants combo is fantastic. He really is like a human dance video game. I am so entertained by the whole thing! Hope he learns some more English before he goes to Vegas! Good job, little buddy!
I do NOT understand how Ennouk doesn't make it to Vegas. Seriously so confused. He looked great in the choreo, and I was fist pumping and cheering him on and now I'm sad about it.
Sorry for the extremely lengthy post, but that was arguably the best 2 hours of auditions I've seen in all my watching of this show. Like, I'm thinking at least 6 or 7 of the Top 20 will come from Boston. Memphis auditions next week with Wayne Brady! Love him and can't wait to see the southern talent. I'm also ready to rewatch all the auditions and then VEGAS!
I am convinced everybody needs Grandpa Olaf's Lamp Dance on their dash
David Byrne wins everthing
I don't get tired of watching this dance xDDDD
