Does anyone know anything about sculpting lampshade frames? I want a weird specific Victorian shape, which I can't find unless I go to a place that does custom welds. But I DO have wire and the ability to buy the top piece (the "spider?") online. . .

It can't be impossible, but I'm having trouble finding any guides/tutorials.

Custom designed lamp making! Sounds amazing right? It is amazing. This is a design program called Inkscape to create a custom design for your lamp shade. In this two session class you will experience the making of a custom designed lamp using laser cutting, wood working, electrical wiring and artistic finishing techniques. Additional materials fees apply. Please see details below.

What we will do :

- Learn a design program called Inkscape to create a custom design for your lamp shade

- Learn about laser cutting to cut panels for your lamp shade

- Create unique effects for the shade using paint, glass, paper backing and other materials

- Learn basic woodworking while cutting, sanding and finishing a solid wood lamp base

I’m going to ease myself back into lamp making. Just make a basic one. Figure out exactly how the wires need to attach to the sockets.

Also, while we’re on the topic, why is it so hard to find dim-able black light bulbs?

We are beginning to explore handmade paper sculpture. First, we're experimenting with wire armatures and using methyl cellulose to glue wet sheets of pressed abaca to the metal.
