For True Love
So I was inspired by this post to write a one-shot for JinYi! Here it is @ruensroad and thank you so much for listening to my ideas XD Here it is and I hope you like it!
“Fairrry.” Jin Ling called out for his adorable husky puppy as he stepped into the kitchen. He ran his hand through his hair as he started preparing her breakfast. Fairy had been a gift from his Uncle Yao and Uncle Mingjue three months ago for his birthday. The sweet dog was a good source of comfort to him since he’d moved to the city by himself.
He sat down her bowl only to notice that she hadn’t come yet. He frowned. She was usually already on his heels the moment he’d pulled her food from the fridge. He waited a minute or two longer before he’d go in search for her. His apartment was good in size but that didn’t give her a whole lot of places to hide.
“Oh there you are.” Jin Ling said finding her in the living room after waiting on her for almost five minutes. Last night he’d forgotten to shut the blinds so she was able to see out the large wall of windows that faced the other apartment building and courtyard in between them. Her pink nose pressed against the window, fogging up the glass a bit. Her dark eyes focused across the way to the all too familiar curtainless window. Jin Ling chuckled crouching down beside her, gently petting her.
Across from them in the other building, the apartment that’d been empty for almost a year empty he’d noticed that two guys had moved into it seven months ago. It wasn’t long before he’d caught his beloved puppy staring at that their neighbors had a cat that likes to sit in the window several times a day. It’s an adorable loaf of fluffy white with black trimmed ears and a black splotch on it’s nose between two sky blue eyes.
“Your buddy is up and playing early today.” He chuckled while rubbing behind Fairy’s ears, “Come on, girl. Let’s get you fed and you can come back I promise.” That earned him a turn of head in his direction as if agreeing to his offer. So Jin Ling stood up walking with her back to the kitchen so that she could eat and he could have his morning coffee before Zizhen came over to film.
Over the weekend, Jin Ling thought he saw a woman in snowdrop’s - his nickname for the cat, apartment. But two grape monster energy drinks later he pushed it out of his mind to focus on editing his videos. He needed to get them done so that he wouldn’t have to worry about them later.
“Dude, I think Fairy is upset.” Zizhen said to him stepping into the office. A warm cup of the orange tea in hand that he knows that Jin Ling loves.
“Uh, why would you think that?” Jin Ling asked asked taking off his head phones before accepting the cup.
“She’s been whining and pouting near the window.”
“Oh, snowdrop must not have been in the window.” Jin Ling answered before taking a drink of his tea. Humming in happiness at it being warm when the office was so cold.
“snowdrop?” Zizhen questioned with a smile on his face. Jin Ling didn’t need to ask what he was thinking. He knew what was funny. Jin Ling got his taste for naming animals from his jiujiu.
“Oh, it’s the nickname I gave the neighbor’s cat across the way. Fairy has taken a liking to it and watches the cat when it’s in the window seat. Let me show you.” Jin Ling replied standing up. His body stiff from sitting so long editing. He stretched for a moment before grabbing his cup to drink on the way back to the kitchen.
“I can’t believe you nicknamed your neighbor’s cat.” Zizhen teased as they stepped into the living room.
“Well it’s not like I know them. They live in the other building.” Jin Ling explained walking to the windows. Sure enough in front of them was Fairy laying down with her head on top of her paws, ears dropped down, looking sad. He kneeled to pet her hair softly in comfort.
“Do you know anyone that lives in this building?”
“A-Qing and i wouldn’t go anywhere near her. Her brother is a gangster.” Jin Ling sassed, giving his friend the eye. He loved him but the man was a flirt. He’d probably get shot.
“Whatever, show me this cat.” Zizhen said still standing. Jin Ling stood up pointing to the window where the cat should be. However, he noticed that instead of the adorable munchkin cat sunbathing there was potted plants getting some sun.
“Oh, that’s why she’s sad! They’ve put plants on the window seat. So, now snowdrop has nowhere to lay or play.” Jin Ling stated still pointing so Zizhen could see.
“Well maybe they’ll change it back around. We don’t want her to get heartbroken after a cute cat.” Zizhen stated hopefully dropping down to give Fairy a reassuring ear rub. When four days had passed with still no sight of snowdrop and Fairy not even wanting to eat her snacks that his mother made, Jin Ling came up with a plan.
Lan Jingyi was still trying to calm down when he got back to his apartment building. He’d been gone for two days and it had taken his mother two days to mess up his apartment. And by mess up he meant that awful feng shui she’d done. Sure, she had claimed that she had done to make his apartment’s energy more peaceful but all it did was annoy him to no end.
He loved his mother but she had no idea how much stress she’d actually put him through. It had taken a month for him and Lan Sizhui to have figured out where he’d wanted everything. Now, He’d come home to find it in chaos and his poor cat was so confused. Due to his job, he’d not been able to actually sit down to fix it until now. So a whole week had gone by living this way. Thankfully, Lan Sizhui was willing to come back and help him fix it.
His phone rang with Lan Sizhui’s ringtone. He answered noticing an envelope taped to his apartment door. “Hey.”
“Hey, I’ll be there in a few minutes. Traffic is moving a little slow.” Lan Sizhui greeted him back.
“That’s fine. I just got back from my morning run.” Jingyi replied as he punched the code on the door keypad to get in. He opened the envelope pulling out the letter. “There was a letter on my door too.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. Let me read this to you. It’s cute.” Jingyi chuckled after reading it silently the first time.
Hi this is your neighbor directly across from you in Alpha Commons. I know this is going to seem weird and rather ridiculous. But I have to for the sake of my puppy. See she’s fallen in love with your adorable cat that always plays in the window for the past three months. She loves to watch your cat at least three times a day. Now that you’ve rearranged the window space with those pretty potted plants, she’s heartbroken because she keeps looking for your cat. Maybe you could switch the pots to a different window?
Your Neighbor, Jin Ling and Fairy (my dog)
“That is cute.” Lan Sizhui, “Are you going to do it?”
“Me? Stand in the way love? No I don’t think so.” Jingyi replied glancing over at the window seat with the potted plants.
On the way home from having lunch with his cousin, A-Song, he hoped that he’d find a similar envelope on his door. However, he was disappointed when he didn’t. He punched in his code stepping inside. That’s when he noticed an envelope on the floor of his entryway.
“Fairy.” He called out for his dog when she didn’t greet him at the door like she usually did. He sighed wondering if she was still in the living room pouting. He toed out of his shoes grabbing the envelope then heading to the living room. He came to a stop in the hallway reading the letter inside.
Dear Jin Ling and Fairy,
We are sorry that us redecorating made Fairy sad. We never wanted that. So for true love I hope you like the new changes we’ve made!
Your neighbors, Jingyi and Buttons.
Jin Ling grinned seeing that Jingyi had also left him a note at the bottom with his number to call or text to let him know that Fairy approved of the changes they made. He went into his living room finding his puppy up against the window. This time her two front paws on the glass holding her upright as her nose fogged up the window a bit. Her tail wagging happily at the sight of her cat friend named, Buttons not snowdrop. The window was free of flowers as Buttons rolled around playing with a ball of gold and red yarn and the most beautiful man he’s ever seen. Oh yes they both loved the changes and hopefully he’ll get the love of that beautiful man.
