New York High School Board That Dropped "Redskins" Nickname Facing Backlash
One Lancaster High School alumnus, Keith Stoerr, told BuzzFeed News that he feels a strong connection to the “Redskins” nickname because of its association with sports teams. He learned the nickname was “mildly offensive” during a conversation with a Native American student at another school, but...

A football player at Lancaster High School severely beat a gay student but was not charged with a crime?
I'm seeing this around on tumblr a lot and I thought I would post this. Of course I know that its possible that there was more to the story that the school did not report, but it seems unlikely that the OP, who posted the story a year ago and lives in australia, went to that school and witnessed the event. (But hey, correct me if im wrong on that one) (Btw, I know hate crimes get swept under the rug all the time, but there are sadly enough real ones out there, so if anyone knows this one to be true, let me know.)
I actually get so mad when i see this kind of misinformation like what happened at Lancaster spread like wildfire. There are online petitions to get this poor kid expelled. There are thousands of tumblr users ready to ring his neck without a second thought, without even knowing at all what happened. The thing that gets me is that this happens all the time. People just see a flat out lie of a post and immediately light up with rage without the sense to even confirm. It's like high school rumors, people's lives are being ruined by this communities bandwagon effect constantly. Please cite your posts people.
(if you dunno what im talking about click here )
That disgusts me. That Lancaster Gay Beating? FAKE. Snopes.com confirmed it. A girl cut in line, a boy told her no, and then she and her friend shoved him over a railing and beat him up. What does Tumblr do? Lie and say the boy beat someone up because they were gay. Now he's getting death threats. He was 14 and smaller than her. All parties have minor injuries. Will people do anything to get attention?
I will admit to falling for it at first, but then I did my research. Save this boy, guys. If you reblogged the lie, I think you need to reblog the truth. Find the Snopes article.
