In my most recent Lancer pickup game I dodged a Short Cycle Lance with Mimic Mesh.
I’m gonna leave that as food for my… three Lancer followers to puzzle out.
Okay, call me hung up on mundanity if you must, but my preoccupation with things like plumbing and ventilation in settings from fantasy to sci-fi and beyond have yielded good results.
Like opening a Lancer campaign by describing to the GM and convincing my new compatriots to help me defeat a small orbital space installation by boiling them in their own waste.
Somewhere out there in space...
Lancer Movie Poster for @bigbearpara !
(Timelapse)
It’s 5016u and the galaxy is home to trillions.... of sports franchises.
scene from last week! were up against a monstrosity called an adversary! this one is a seraphim. it has a 100% mortality rate and wiped out an entire town. :)
red mech is my lancer, kye (pilot pictured top left)! the orange unfinished mech is his son, rowan (pictured bottom right)! technically rowan is a soldier and kye is being labeled a terrorist by said government :D
I love Lancer so much, so when I get mad about it I get so so mad about it-
Why on Earth does Technophile 1 & 2 stop you from equipping other NHPs and vice versa?
I get talents influence your equipment choices, but Technophile forces equipment choices onto you for the first two levels.
Moreover, Technophile is a rare talent that actually carries narrative weight. Its progression is a character arc in a talent. But if you’re a Sherman Pilot who is getting used to their new Asura buddy and suddenly you wanna take Technophile to follow a new NHP plot hook and do some character development, you need to unequip one of them?
What really gets me going is that it’s a talent. Sure, rerolling checks and saves are good. We can all agree with that. Is it better than Orator 1 & 2? How about Grease Monkey? Exemplar? Vanguard? Ace? Tactician? Why do I have to sacrifice using an NHP to use the first two levels of Technophile but Crack Shot doesn’t stop me from using CQB weapons?
What’s specifically so broken about using specifically a Technophile 1 or 2 NHP with a different NHP, but not that broken that a Technophile 3 NHP can be equipped with as many NHPs as I’d like? Saves are uncommon in Lancer, and checks are rare. You’re telling me I can make a guy unable to fight as a free action while turning a different guy into my ally with Orator and OSIRIS, yet if I were to sub out Orator for Technophile 2, suddenly using it with Osiris is too broken?
It’s such a confusing restriction that only makes leveling up to get the build you want more inconvenient, not difficult or challenging like it should be, just inconvenient, and restricts what kinds of stories you can tell with Technophile.
Lancer, you’re normally so so good about this, why is this arbitrary restriction here?
Not platonically in love, not romantically in love, not sexually in love, but if you died my entire framework of reality would collapse in an instant, turning me into something much more and yet something so much other that could and would tear reality apart because I could no longer see anything left of my old existence worth keeping.
