He’s been suggested the idea. Too many times by his followers. He’s openly responded to said suggestions by saying they make him uncomfortable.

Some of y’all would’ve had your eggs crack sooner if the idea you were trans were pitched to you sooner. However many public figures who transitioned went through the exact opposite problem where the overwhelming peer pressure to transition further closeted them.

We already suggested the idea. Can we leave him alone and make his actual friends IRL take it from here?

Do you think that maybe the artist who's by her own admission played into this for years is possibly just fine with it? I've seen no record of her saying she's uncomfortable with it, and her recent posts on Patreon seem to prove quite the opposite. On the @‘s front, fair, this isn’t directly drawing Shen’s attention, though this is a public space and I feel like it still risks prodding Shen in a way I feel is overblown. Also fair about asking for a source- I checked Shen’s tumblr and with a cursory glance (though Tumblr search is bad) I found nothing. I coulda swore I remembered seeing a post regarding Shen being uncomfortable by the excessive gender inquiries, but I guess I’ve simply been going off secondhand accounts. My mistake.

Second, I said nothing about Shen potentially being happier as a trans woman. If Shen is trans, I hope Shen transitions as soon as possible. What I am saying is that whether or not Shen is trans, it should not be any of our business. We are strangers to Shen, yet we keep sending these inquiries Shen’s way. There’s such a thing as “too much support.”

What I mean to say is this- if Shen needs to be informed transitioning is an option, Shen probably has actual friends who can tell Shen this. That doesn’t include us, and it shouldn’t. It isn’t our business. Gender exploration is a deeply personal and vulnerable journey- I would know, I’m going through it right now. Prodding someone going through it to speed it up, like trying to prod a zoo animal to do a trick, is rude and we should stop doing it.

There’s a middle ground between “too much” suggesting and “too little.” The Internet simply being aware of Shen assures us that the latter is never going to be at risk of happening, and that the former is always going to be at risk of happening. Be aware of that.

You make it sound like insisting one person transition somehow offsets a systemic and cultural issue.

Plus, if a million people told you to, idk, love yourself, would that not make the statement start to feel insincere? Or would you start to feel like you aren’t actually loving yourself but simply doing so because people told you to?

There are several examples I’m aware of (whose names I shall omit) of Trans Women online who were discouraged from coming out due to an over insistence on them being trans. This shit happens. Being over insistent on someone being trans can discourage them from coming out because it could make them doubt if it’s their own feelings or if it’s peer pressure.

You need to be careful when cracking an egg. If the bird can’t break out, then it’s fine to use a little force to make the process easier. But if you use too much force- like tends of thousands of people insisting the egg must hatch- you crush the egg kill the bird.

There is such a thing as too much support, especially when it’s channeled into a singular person rather than into a community. I believe in trans rights, and all queer rights on any spectrum. But I also believe the process of discovering one’s location within the queer community is a personal and delicate process more often than not- it’s not always a confident realization, and it’s not always aggressive or violent. Sometimes it takes weeks of slowly accepting the idea more and more until you realize you accept it, becoming the type of person who will accept it. Trying to deliver that truth early on in the process will simply result in reactionary behavior.

And I’m not speaking for the trans community at large. I am speaking simply for Shen and Shen alone. It’s none of our business. You’re not Shen’s friend, and neither am I. You don’t know Shen, and neither do I. So let’s leave Shen alone.

Besides, if Shen’s community being insistent was helping, Shen would’ve come out by now. It’s been years- maybe try something different?

Ultimately. This isn’t an issue of trans rights or transmisogyny. This is an issue of parasocial behavior. And it sounds like Shen’s community has gotten way too comfortable assuming they know Shen better than Shen.
