Concert: Laneway Fest (part one)
Charlie Collins and her infectious tunes started the day right at the Doc Martens Stage- a large crowd gathering and having a dance despite the early set time.
Gflip and her animated drum kit affectionately nicknamed Jeromo stole the show early on, with her newest single “Drink too much” being a highlight, with the crowd belting the opening line - “I got a crush on Steph Claire Smith”.
Baker Boy drew hundreds into the crowd as he demonstrated his dance moves, then invited Aussie Unearthed favorite Kian onto the stage for their track “Cloud Nine”. His incorporation of Yolgnu Matha language into his rapping sets him apart from the rest- which is what makes his performances so enjoyable.
A slick sound and stage presence sums up Smino’s performance pretty well- So I won’t say any more than that.
An absolute crowd (and personal) favorite, Middle Kids performance was energetic and all too relatable- with the classic “Edge of Town” drawing festival-goers from all edges of the grounds.
Edgy pop beats and ethereal vocals set Clairoapart from the rest- which is why she was absolutely adored during her set and the dance floor, packed.
Skegss, as per usual, drove the crowd wild with their simple yet banging song “New York California”, while the tame dancing from the sets before turned into heavy moshing and circle pits.
Complete with saxophone solos, Masego’s music got the crowd ready and rearing for the night ahead.
Rex Orange County’s first time in Australia and he was a massive hit- the park was overrun with fans who enthusiastically belted out all the songs.
