As someone who struggles with auditory processing and probably adhd, I find paying attention to a video in a language that I understand less than a toddler impossible. Every time my Spanish prof puts on one of those textbook videos my brain shuts off

Help puhleaasee? I'm on the premed track and deciding between taking spanish, intro to psych, or calc (along with chem and the two core classes), because I only want to take 5 courses
I’m assuming you’re taking chem lab too? I’d recommend taking Calc 3, because calculus is one of those subjects that gets harder the more you forget about it. Spanish is the opposite of a priority right now, and in case you decide to not be premed ever, you won’t have wasted your time on Intro to Psych. Calc, however, is dead useful in many majors.
Actually, I’ll change my answer a bit. If you’re more interested in humanities or “soft sciences” majors, take Intro to Psych. If you’re more interested in STEM majors or are literally in SEAS, then take Calc. Again, Spanish can be done later. The only reason I said Calc off the bat is because I’m a STEM person.
Past me is amazing because she took the SAT II in Latin and scored higher than a 530 in high school and that test now counts for my Graduate School language requirement and means I don’t have to take that exam again!
So I took the online placement test and got Elementary Spanish II, but on Vergil, all the classes are full. Should I wait until second semester to start the lang requirment? Thank you!
Absolutely, there’s no rush to fulfill the language requirement. Especially because Elementary classes are quick to fill up, so you won’t be able to do that any time soon. Keep trying though!
Random q, but do you recommend I continue spanish or begin french? I don't have enough credits to skip the lang requirement, and I'm conflicted!!
As someone who’s fluent in French I’d place my bets on continuing Spanish. It’s super nice to be wholly confident in another language and besides, Spanish is way more useful than French in today’s world.

Satisfying the language exit requirement for languages not taught at UW
The UW Language Learning Center provides testing opportunities for students who know languages that are not taught at UW. If a student has sufficient skills and fluency in one of these languages, they can test and satisfy their graduation language requirement. This is especially a great opportunity for heritage language students. Recently, we have had quite a few Somali and Eastern Punjabi speakers take advantage of the test.
The deadline for Winter quarter registration is January 13th (pre-registration must be completed by January 12th).
