Guys I'm so fucking happy :( I figured put how to use live captions on my laptop and I actually know what they're saying!!!! I can actually know what my favorite songs are saying!!!!
Omg I never expected other people to see my lil post about difficulties and stigma around auditory processing disorder, but some people did and here we are.
Tbh I really want to hear from other people with apd, and their experiences, cause I’ve actually never met another person with severe apd, so here’s a list of 10 questions if any of my fellow apd people wanna answer some!
1: when did you (or those around you) realize there was something up with your hearing?
2: does your apd come with other neurodivergency?
3: does your apd also come with specifically synesthesia?
4: what resources and accommodations have you found help best?
5: which headphones are better, in ear or outer ear?
6: how do you explain apd to those around you?
7: what is the worst thing about apd?
8: what is the best thing about apd?
9: which is worse, repetitive noises or loud noises?
10: do other people in your family have apd?
Thanks so much to anyone who responds, y’all are helping me feel less isolated!
"nevermind. i guess you have selective hearing. you really gotta work on that"
i guess you have a coward ass voice. you really gotta SPEAK UP BITCH
Does anyone know whether there are transcripts of @thecellarletters early episodes?
I got intrigued after listening to Nine to Midnight but the episode description wasn’t lying that the audio quality is, uhm, not great
I have auditory processing disorder and looking up transcripts is one of the first things I do when getting into a new podcast but I can’t seem to find any for Cellar Letters episodes 5 and ongoing (I’m still at ep. 11 for now)
From what I could understand (I was kinda distracted and the audio quali wasn’t helping, hehe) the podcast definitely has me interested and I currently hope I can grasp the full picture even without fully understanding episodes 1 to 15
YouTube really needs to be better at captioning
Ok so I got to thinking and here's my pitch for an APD (auditory processing disorder) creature. Introducing.... the 'Huh?'
Idk just a thought
The cruelest joke autism played on me was making me hypersensitive to sound and then giving me auditory processing disorder.
Someone will say something I hear perfectly fine but that my brain decided was the verbal equivalent of a keysmash, think they were too quiet and say it louder, and now I want to cry because my ears hurt.
And then I have to explain to them that no, I'm not deaf my brain is just made of shrimp
