I’m not sure where really to start teaching russian, because even to me(a native speaker) this language is hard and complicated. Let’s assume, that you already know alphabet and some simple words, what next? I thought about it, and first thing that came to my mind was a sentence structure. What about it? Well, in russian, a lot depends on your tone and you can use the same exact sentence to ask a question, exclaim or respond to your friend. Here are examples:

-Я приглашён? ( ya pri-gla-shón)  -  Am I invited? 

Your tone goes up toward the end of the sentence, or basically uptalk it. 

-Я приглашён! ( ya pri-gla-shón)   -  I am invited! 

Here, you just pronounce the sentence as you were to argue with somebody, downtalk the end of the sentence. 

If it’s a happy exclamation, aka “I’m happy because I’m invited” (which is less common in russian), your whole sentence is going to be uptone, same as your voice is going to be louder. I think you can tell how people act when they are happy, but keep it in mind that this “happy” exclamation might just be a sarcasm. *Not that in russian we don’t show our happiness, but we LOVE to use sarcasm every now and then.

-Я приглашен. (ya pri-gla-shón)  - I’m invited.

Just as you would normally respond to your friend, like “yes, I’m invited to freshman day at my University” (when you mean that it’s not a bid deal - every freshman is invited). Your tone is somewhere in the middle, doesn’t rise of fall through out the sentence.

Most of these sentence can be put in the pattern SUBJECT+VERB+OBJECT.

Here are some examples:

1) Я иду в парк (ya i-dú v park) - I’m walking to the park.

SUBJEST (Я)  +  VERB (ИДУ) + OBJECT (В КИНО)

**I won’t talk about words such as “в”,”к” and etc in this lesson, but prepositions will have their own page with explanations and they are very important in russian language.

2) Я делаю домашнюю работу (ya dé-lau do-másh-nu-iu ra-bó-tu) - I’m doing my homework.

SUBJECT ( Я )   + VERB ( ДЕЛАЮ )  + OBJECT ( ДАМАШНЮЮ РАБОТУ )

**домашнюю работу - subject here is made from an adjective (домашнюю) and a noun (работу), because in russian word “homework” is made out of 2 words: home&work. Sorry, if I confused you.

3) Она переезжает в Японию(ona pe-re-ez-zhá-et v ya-pó-ni-u) - She is moving to Japan.

SUBJECT ( ОНA )   + VERB ( ПЕРЕЕЗЖАЕТ )  + OBJECT ( В ЯПОНИЮ )

4) Я научусь готовить ( ya na-u-chúc’ go-tó-vit’) - I will learn how to cook.

Future tense in russian follows SVO structure:

SUBJECT ( Я )   + VERB ( НАУЧУСЬ )  + OBJECT ( ГОТОВИТЬ )

5) Oн приготовил завтрак (on pri-go-tó-vil záv-trak) - He cooked the breakfast.

As you can see, past tense also follows this SVO structure:

SUBJECT ( ОН )   + VERB ( ПРИГОТОВИЛ )  + OBJECT ( ЗАВТРАК )

If you want to add some description (adjective) to the OBJECT, you can simply put this adjective before the object in SVO structure. Let’s use sentence 5 and improve it:

As you can see, I added adjective вкусный right before my object завтрак, to add some description to it.
