but seriously, everyone in montreal just assumes you know french. one time i went out with my friend to get late night dairy queen because we were craving ice cream, and some randos came up to us and were like BONJOUR!!! *rapid french*

like, me and my friend are chinese and jamaican, respectively. we def don’t look like we speak french but when you’re in montreal?? doesn’t matter. everyone who’s a human is assumed to know french.
