Old Lanjin wip that I don’t think ill ever finish so im tossing it into the pile of oc posts. I didn’t dislike it it just didn’t quite fit the style i had going so it got abandoned

Lanlin sleepies…

I drew this a while ago and forgot to post it whoopsies. Sometimes I do little goodnight doodles for myself

Worked on a small collab for a friend and ended up with this Lanjin. Ive been playing around with how I render and I feel like this worked a lot better for me coming from my background with watercolor…

Yes I know her hair is white now, I kind of have been imagining it as white for a long time, anytime I drew it darker it felt off. Shes got some layers underneath that are dark but its not super visible here. Anyway, for those of you that follow along with my little wlw ocs here you go ❤️

Lanjin because I have a couple days off and deeply needed to do something creative after weeks of avoiding it. I might take this and use the sketch for one of the color palette challenges I have left but that’ll be a future project

Been struggling a bit. Having some confidence issues and tied with this being my first time actually designing characters its just bumming me out. But heres (a) design for Xie Lanjin

I had a friend encourage me to write a little again, so I’m including it under the cut. It’s a bit rushed, and I was writing it in an attempt to be kind to translator (the friend doesn’t speak English well, but I can only really write in English) so it might read as a little choppy. I was also very sleep deprived (full time work and grad school yay) so forgive any mistakes. Thank you guys that have been so positive about me sharing oc stuff, I promise I’ll do some more svsss and tgcf soon ❤️

Until now, Lanjin had been quite stubborn in her pursuit of learning about the strange martial cultivator, paying little mind to Zhaolin’s cold shoulders and generally rude and curt responses. She’d of course also noticed the hints of regret in her eyes, but she’d not taken it very seriously until the night before, blaming it instead on Zhaolin’s typical solemn demeanor.

Zhaolin always acted as if she were grieving something. But why was it that last night, it suddenly felt as if Lanjin were the one she was grieving?

Lanjin’s fingers stalled on the cold metal door handle. Her whole body felt cold, and for a moment she considered turning around and crawling back into her warm bed. But she couldn’t, not when her chest still ached as it did, not when she knew the woman wouldn’t continue to rest without pressure. Not when she was worried.

She drew a sharp breath and knocked softly before slowly pulling the heavy door open. Her breath was immediately stolen again.

Zhaolin was already awake in bed. Her hair was loose down her back, a black stream that slipped down and pooled around her waist on the sheets. Her expression was tired, faint dark circles huddled underneath her eyes, but she didn’t seem as weak as she had the last time they spoke. Her eyebrows were knit together slightly, but once she saw who had entered the room, they seemed to soften again. Again, there was a familiar flicker of regret.

It was a long moment before Lanjin realized she hadn’t spoken, and she hurriedly stepped inside, feeling her cheeks grow hot despite the cold. “I’ve…brought you some hot water,” she said warily. She reached to set the pot on the small table beside the bed. “If you’re hungry…”

Zhaolin watched her carefully, waiting for a continuation, but there was none. “…Mn,” she hummed in recognition, and looked back down at her lap. Perhaps she simply felt awkward after their ‘argument’ before.

Lanjin steadied herself and poured a cup of warm water, carefully bringing it over. The warmth of the ceramic cup against her cold skin made her fingertips tingle. It was only when she held it out to Zhaolin that she realized the woman had been combing her hair.

Lanjin paused, wavering again even as Zhaolin stopped and set the comb down, reaching out a pale hand to gently take the water from her. She even uttered a small thanks, but it floated past Lanjin’s ears unnoticed.

Something in her chest was itching terribly. Lanjin had never seen Zhaolin with her hair down—at least, she was almost certain she hadn’t. And yet the scene felt painfully familiar.

She found herself wanting to reach out and take the small comb, to sit behind her with the woman between her legs, gently adjusting her head as she worked through the knots and tangles. She wanted to braid her hair, to do it up all herself, decorate it with hairpins and make sure she looked presentable.

Zhaolin’s brow furrowed the longer the silence stretched. “What is it?”

Lanjin was finding it increasingly difficult to speak. Had she gone mute? She’d been mouthing off to her just the day before!

“I…”

Zhaolin watched as the other woman avoided eye contact, looking away with a slight flush to her cheeks. For the life of her she couldn’t figure out what she was thinking, and she set the cup down, concern creeping across her face. “Lanjin…”

Pushing aside the swirling mixture of emotions she was feeling, Lanjin thickened her face and looked back up at her. “Would you like me to comb your hair for you?”

Zhaolin’s eyes widened, her grip tightening enough that the teeth of the comb dug into her palm. It was in those small moments of surprise that Lanjin could decipher the most about her.

After a long, tense quiet, Zhaolin reached and held the comb out to her. Lanjin’s breath caught in her throat as she looked down at it. Her gaze shot back up to her face, and she could tell that Zhaolin was mildly uncomfortable, her lip curled. She looked down at Lanjin warily, expression reserved, but her hand held out the comb nonetheless.

Lanjin gently took it, her fingertips brushing against her palm briefly. It felt like a rare opportunity, seeing Zhaolin act so compliant. Maybe she was just tired. Regardless, Lanjin would continue to steal as many rare opportunities as she could, every moment of softness and every regretful glance.

Just messing around a bit, don’t mind i didn’t put any flat colors underneath their clothes i just needed to draw them in something basic to get some ideas down (this is Lanjin and the yet unnamed shizun of Zhaolin)

something something paralleling them because neither of them has good fates but one is slowly being undone by being separated from it and the other can’t accept it
