coming back after a year to talk shit about the pitt, how ya doing
eventually i will be talking more in depth about samira mohan and the absolute audacity of them to write her the way they did in season two only to then not have supriya ganesh come back in season 3, but.
But.
I think the way they just unceremoniously wrote her off should worry people a lot more. None of us really know the reasons why they did this, the only thing we can do is try to extrapolate why based on previous decisions (we lost Heather, Gloria, and Kiara in one go) and their contradicting answers anytime someone asks them about why Supriya is not returning ('she can't hack it in an ER setting' vs. 'she's just not working that day'). Frankly, the optics of this looks like shit, but even if I ignore this, if I decide to offer this decision the MOST grace I possibly can, what I'm left with is, at the end of the day, they just stopped caring about her character. Gemmil alleged's that he didn't know Samira was going to be written off until partway through writing season 2 (I don't fully believe it but again I'm offering grace here for arguments sake), but nothing in her final moments suggests that she's moving on from the Pitt. 'We need you here,' she says to Robbie, the 'we' being an obvious inclusion of herself. Samira could have easily said 'they need you here' which would give us a glaring insight into her state of mind and where she feels her place is. But she doesn't. She says she's considering a geriatrics fellowship, there's nothing about going to Jersey anyway for the job she had lined up previously or moving on because she feels she doesn't belong. If they knew they were writing her out, wouldn't they want her to go out with some proverbial bang? Give her a proper exit?
Instead what we get is a frankly lackluster storyline that meanders and doesn't seem to know where to go, a deplorable lack of screen time, and an ending that gives zero implication that Samira is even considering leaving the pitt. Next season takes place only 4 months later so by rights she should still be there, except she's not. All this to say, the most generous read I can give these writers is that they lost interest in her character so bad that they basically just shrugged their shoulders about her and decided she wasn't worth writing a meaningful story or exit for. That could happen to any other character at any time, and they have the very convenient explanation of a revolving door teaching hospital bullshit excuse to pull out of their pocket anytime they encounter any criticism. I just think a lot more people should be very wary of this whole situation and how it can effect the other characters (and the actors more importantly!) in the future.
the most recent episode reminded me of sebastian's tutor gimmick with the glasses
why does he do this. the most likely reason is that he's just having fun and committing to the bit. however this is BORING which brings me to my other theories
1.) every teacher he's met happened to wear glasses, thus his demon brain has concluded that they're a necessary accessory and doesn't understand their purpose as a visual aid
2.) sebastian is actually farsighted but in a weird, inhuman way. his vision works differently than ours meaning he can see WAY more ~stuff~, aka the human souls back in weston. this is usually not an issue, BUT if he needs to narrow his focus to tiny words on a page, the random miasmic interference becomes distracting. therefore the magnification has a sort of placebo effect that helps him read :)
Okay I know it's kind of a weird thing to ask but. Fun little mystery: My husband has been trying to find any information about a virtual band that he vaguely remembers seeing stuff about sometime between 2013 and 2016, and at this point he's not even sure if it was real or he imagined it, so I'm asking if anyone else can point us anywhere. It was a rock band, and he remembers the characters were 3D animated, the vocalist had a ponytail, sunglasses, and a goatee, and the bassist was a girl with messy hair and a tattoo of la Virgen de Guadalupe on her arm, and he doesn't remember what any of the other band members looked like. He also says he's not sure about this part but that he vaguely remembers one of their music videos being broadcast on Cartoon Network Latin America at least once. He also remembers them trying to start beef with Gorillaz as like a failed publicity stunt.
pretty sure I saw someone talk about this but I can't find it so... this is meljayvik agenda
Mel going to Viktor's commune after her magic is revealed to her. They bond through being bestowed powers they never asked for, powers they received because people who love them wanted to protect them, save them, because they thought they could, because they never stopped to think if they should... These people's greed and ambition dragged them into something they had no say in, no agency in... And now they feel like strangers in their own bodies, in their own existence, grasping with a completely new reality, the foundations of their worlds shaken to the core.
And missing Jayce still, wondering where he is, if he's okay, without any news, not hearing anything from other people, like he just disappeared...
''Do you... love him ?" Viktor asks, and Mel hears the vulnerability in his voice despite his calm demeanor.
They sit on the edge of the small fountain inside the verdoyant dome of plants and giant flowers, the calm splashing of water soothing their uncertainty.
She doesn't hesitate when she responds.
''I do.''
Viktor nods slowly, eyes on the cog he traces the edges of with his thumb, and Mel feels a pang of sadness from him but also, an understanding, a similar sentiment to the one she bears for Jayce.
''You know...'' she begins with a slight hesitation, watching Viktor's fingers running back and forth on a dent in the metallic object. ''He loved you, too.''
Watercolor irises meet hers, expecting more, waiting for more. Hoping for more.
''And I thought... I thought it was brotherly love, he called you that.'' she smiles tenderly, a soft laugh escaping her mouth. ''But in retrospect, I doubt it was just that.''
She feels Viktor's hope, and an ache too, one that doesn't bear asking the question.
But it's too late, isn't it ?
The air is still in the commune, yet the plants seem to shiver with an imaginary breeze.
Jayce's presence has always been unmistakable to them, a constant in their lives for many years now, and they're just as painfully aware of his absence.
''He'll come back to us.''
Mel's hand rests on Viktor's, pinky finger touching the cog.
i might have peaked here
