Remy is trans in LAOFT? I didn’t know that, that’s so cool! Can you talk a bit about it?

sure! i hadnt realized i hadnt said it on the blog yet, and i havent managed to fit it into a fic yet either

basically, i didnt intend for Remy to be a trans man from the get-go, and then a while back he was just like “i’ve been trans this whole time” and im like “well it sure would have been swell if you could have told me, the author, that little tidbit at uhhhh any point before now”

and then i felt like it might be disingenuous to make him trans after the fact if i didnt plan on it from the start, like i was taking credit for rep i didnt initially plan on and then i decided its my house and i do what i want

but as for actual in-universe stuff, Remy was definitely one of those trans people who always knew he was a boy (as opposed to Polly, who has only been out as a girl for a few years by the time of Group Chat), and started dressing and presenting as male very young, possibly before he even actually started school im not 100% positive on exact timeframes - but definitely so long that everyone has pretty much always known Remy as Remy and a guy. When people even remember he might have a deadname they’d be hardpressed to remember it (read: im not giving him one, tis nonexistent)

Ace (Aaron, Remy and Nate’s dad) is very chill and accepting - was a teenager in the eighties, is now both Grown Up and Punk, him and his brother (Anton, Polly’s dad) were the original Adams Boys Who Brew Moonshine.

(also he is in Fact ace as in asexual as well as Ace as in “funny nickname his brother gave him because he’s a massive klutz” yes Remy and Nate’s dad is “action hero who cant catch things” dont @ me)

Hmmm what else. Remy has not had top surgery by the time of the main storyline, he wears a binder - theres going to be Adams Kids Fluff about that topic at some point

as for other side characters, most of them have much less meaningful selections - i made a sort of... its almost a random name generator that you have to do by hand.

i have a list of the most common surnames in the Appalachian region, and a list of common names by year, and when i needed an NPC and didnt already have a CT or Shorts character i could use there, i generated a name

the CT and Shorts character i just use the canon (or fanon for the shorts) names and pick a surname off the list

as for what they actually are

CT characters (minus Emile who obvi already has one and Dot and Larry who got Sanders)

The exception to the “common appalachian surnames” conventions are Andy Fox and Teagan Daniels (Shorts Anxiety and Shorts Teacher), who’s last names are a very silly joke - Andy Fox and Teagan Daniels, which is a reference to Fox Mulder and Dana Scully from X-files
