The Chef A commission I did for #laosinthehouse #BLESSED Chef Bobby Pradachith? A little bit about him: Although growing up in in a Lao household in Northern Virginia, he personally felt lost within his identity as an Asian-American. As Bobby sought to understand more about his family’s heritage, he discovered food could help guide his learning journey. The culmination of studying in culinary school then working under respected Chefs in New York City and Washington DC, led to an opportunity to operate his family’s Laotian restaurants (@thipkhaodc, @padaekdc, @sen_khao & the brand new @hanumanh_dc ). Chef Bobby’s sole ambitions are to preserve the cultural integrity through food and to encourage Lao-American communities to express our culture. He finds old historical content, recipes, art, and stories of his family’s past to be his inspirations. Aaaand we just got the menu from Chef Bobby @pradachith23 for #BLESSED May 4th 😛😋🤤 - tickets available via the link in profile! @laos_inthehouse https://www.instagram.com/artofnor/p/Bwkz_p5lXf7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=iziem4mimfia
The Senator A commission I did for #laosinthehouse #BLESSED Lao New Year Dinner Pop-Up - Ohio State Senator Tina Maharath: The first Asian-American woman elected to the Ohio Senate - and also the first Lao American ever to serve a State office position, Tina chose to dedicate her life to public service at a young age, inspired by her upbringing as the daughter of refugee parents - her father served the U.S. Army (under the Laos Army) while her mother worked as a nurse in the Laos Army. After losing her mother and two brothers in a fatal car accident, Tina leaned on her community to overcome such a tragedy and in return devoted herself to that very same community. Before being elected to office, she helped organize Columbus’ annual Asian Festival and served on the Lao Volunteer Donation Association’s advisory board and the organizing committee for Ohio’s APIA Legislative Day. She continues to volunteer for various organizations throughout central Ohio, including Legacies of War, Ohio Asian American Health Coalition, Community Refugee Immigration Services, Community Shelter Board and Asian American Community Services. In her free time, she mentors young underserved adults who, like her, have had rough upbringings and advocates for issues that impact people facing trauma. Come shake hands with Senator Maharath and hear her story in person May 4th in Philly - buy tickets in the profile link. @laos_inthehouse https://www.instagram.com/artofnor/p/Bwkz3STFxzG/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ozwp22kfxjb3
