other than being moderately worried he's going to get executed for walking home alone from the hospital , shinji's first thought as he opens the door to the dorm is : it really wasn't a dream ? of course , he understood from the very beginning , intrinsically , instinctively , that she's really his persona . still , actually seeing her like this , when he's not under threat of takaya's revolver or otherwise getting knocked on his ass , is jarring . seeing her just walking around outside of the dark hour is even moreso .

he's quiet . he's always quiet when he's got some sort of philosophy brewing in his mind ; some sort of advice that would sound so sagely if not for how often it's utterly hypocritical .
