Untitled|Collective presents The ‘Common Ground’ project, a Global Contemporary Indigenous Dance work in development, established by Untitled|Collective’s Lara Kramer and Artistic Director Ian RT Colless. Kramer is an Ojibwa and Cree (Canadian Aboriginal) Independent Contemporary Choreographer based in Montreal, Canada. Colless is established dancer and emerging choreographer based in New York City and is a descendant from the Dharabuladh (Therabulat) clan of the Gundungurra Nation (Australian Aboriginal).
This global inter-cultural project is a world unique investigation with aims to carve song-lines for Indigenous arts and cultures to travel to various international communities including; NYC, Montreal and Sydney.
The central research question that has formed the topic of ‘Common Ground’s investigation is gathered around the theme of ‘Aboriginality’. The image of many Aboriginal people’s around the globe is largely shaped by dominant culture, the very culture that has a history of silencing the Aboriginal voice.
‘Common Ground’ is a Contemporary Indigenous Dance piece in development inspired by personal cultural identity. Throughout the investigation of the generic stereotypes that are often portrayed in popular culture, our aim is to offer an alternative perceptive to view Aboriginal culture drawing from our personal histories and our experiences in Contemporary Dance.
