“Using the word attachment is confusing given what we know about attachment. A better word for what she’s describing would provide a clearer picture of what she’s trying to say. Attachments are necessary for mental health.
Sometimes I say to clients “It sounds like you have an arrangement, not an attachment.”
Also, “Real love is the capacity to truly see and feel seen by another person.” We cannot truly see the other until we are able to see ourselves.”
