Swing Me Your Bones - Cherisa & Matthias; December 2018
Turning on the lights to the rooms his guest might wander through, Matthias made a quick call downstairs to let his guard know that a guest would be coming. Most of his homes it was just him, all by himself, but Chicago continued to have a rough history of crime and he’d kept security at the fenced home after his wealth became neighborhood common knowledge. The point was to protect his daughter, not one for the sentimentality of “stuff” because he had several “homes” around the world for his job. As he looked around he couldn’t particularly point out one thing or another he’d be devastated to loose in a fire, even though every piece of art and furniture had been carefully chosen by himself or with his daughter. It was a home, his personality evident here and there, but he wasn’t particularly fussed over the things so much as the company and memories he’d have there.
In this instance, his daughter was long asleep back in Nottingham at her posh room at his parent’s mansion. She was on break from school and loving every bustling day under the doting affection of his mum. His days were filled with fundraiser planning and prep for the biggest event his company held each year. Coming to Chicago to check on his fledgling hospital and get a break from the big party just days away in New York City. Normally, this was his favorite time of year, but he’d found himself feeling surprisingly lonely this Christmas, and he’d long since stepped away from his staunchly Catholic belief that sex was for marriage. He’d been married, saved himself for that, and in this new chapter of his life, he personally couldn’t cash in on the belief that a person could be ‘born again’ ... nor did he want to.
Of course, he couldn’t be sure that, having texted a random number, that the person showing up was even going to be into him. The flirtation made him optimistic, though. Besides, Matthias had always been the type to find beauty in most people. Only a few martinis could tell if the attraction he was hoping to find tonight was really there. As he pulled out his phone to answer her text, he couldn’t help but smile. She was playful and that was attractive in and of itself. He made their drinks, wrapping up just as the doorbell rang, and when he opened it he had to pick his jaw up from the floor. She may not have been the woman he’d thought he’d texted, but she certainly wasn’t less attractive. If anything, Matthias felt like he was now being pranked. “Are you my mystery martini texter?” Smiling he stepped aside and let her in. “Welcome.”
