Museo Larco in Lima
One can't visit Lima without getting to know its rich history, or at least so I figured, and so one day I took a taxi to the Larco museum. The museum has an eminent collection of Pre-Columbian art and is located in a beautiful old villa with a peaceful green garden filled with flowers. It took me a couple of hours to walk through the museum and I was over and over again amazed by the culture and all the artwork the pre-Colombians had. The most interesting exhibition was, in my opinion, the room with erotic art. In today's society, erotic art is still somewhat of a tabu, but in Pre-Columbian society people seemed to embrace people's and animals' sexuality and among living and the dead. Also, the way they dealt with death and the life after life was fascinating.
After the extensive tour around the museum, I enjoyed a nice quiche and a coffee in the Café del Museo. The restaurant itself was too pretty to pass on, and I was happy to discover that the food and service were excellent as well. So all you travelers who are heading to Lima, make sure to visit the museum!
