Editor’s notes on fashion weeks around the world for Fall 2016:
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more outlandish than they already have – you have to think again! Fashion goes bigger, bolder, crazier and cooler in yet another Season that didn’t fail to satisfy even the most insatiable appetites from the members of the Style Wolf-pack. How can anybody resist those giant poncho/blanket hybrids that Chloé dished out for us at Paris Fashion Week? And could you even bear the thought of not modelling down your very own bridal runway, dressed in nothing less than a Valentino fairytale frock? The excitement and hype is never-ending, and I’ll be honest – the frills, metallics, prints, larger-than-life shapes & textures all came together for me this season. Amazing.
The big and boxy trend, however, has particularly grown on me for more reasons than one. Firstly, I can’t imagine life without the boxy look – especially after knowing that I can wear effortlessly loose clothes and totally get away with it. Secondly, it keeps me warm, which is really great considering that it is Winter clothing, after all. And most importantly, I now know for sure that nobody’s going to notice the few extra kilos that just crept onto the scale after that ridiculous ice cream binge.
To me, Céline totally nailed this look and managed to maintain the ever-so-illustrious balance between trendy and timeless. In fact, all of the giant fashion houses have basically perfected this skill down to a T, and it really manifests itself in the likes of Chanel, Christian Dior and Hermès (among others). C’est Magnifique!
Burberry – perfectly tailored and luxuriously decadent shoulder padding
Christopher Kane – jersey textures in a very large way
Roksanda – these are my two favourite colours paired together to produce a feminine ensemble
Dolce and Gabbana – accessorise with a pair of classical Mary Janes and a structured tote bag
Salvatore Ferragamo – ingenious use of zips
Marni – a gorgeous reinterpretation of the LBD’s figure-hugging counterpart!
Marc Jacobs – ‘dog-eared’ sleeves with incredible boots
Céline – This flowing emerald pants appears oh-so-glamorous alongside the boxy cape
Céline – all white + minimal + boxy shapes give this look a triple-trend-threat.
Céline – I love the mixed media look ; switching up fabrics, colours and textures are so fun!
Céline – black on black on black never gets old!
Chanel – blush pink is all the rage in coats for Winter this season
Chanel – you can never go wrong with classical camel or tan
Hermès – beautiful colour tones!
Hermès – timeless simplicity
Christian Dior – this coat is a stunning investment piece and will never go out of fashion!
Kenzo – Asian tigress print takes this coat to whole other level of exotic
Louis Vuitton – Nicolas Ghesquière’s creative ingenuity elevates this simple shape to extraordinary heights with beautiful colours & patterns
