Someone enabled me so one more about gushing about Azula's intelligence
So one thing I do enjoy that the comics do show is that while she does suffer from a clear mental disability (possibly paranoid schizophrenia) it doesn't show her as having lost any of her intelligence. She is still as dangerous and cunning as ever.
While being brought in to speak with Ozai she takes note about who is with Zuko, the Kyoshi warriors, of which she knows Ty Lee is part of them. After having personally been chi-blocked possibly more than just the one time we saw in the show, Azula has figured out how to use her outbursts and own reputation as being unstable to her advantage.
Even while she's arguably at her "weakest" Azula finds a way to turn the tides of any battle in her favor. Whether it's by making herself a valuable asset that Zuko has to rely on (Ozai wont talk to Zuko about their mother, but he will to Azula) or by simply using the very tactic that disables her to work around it.
This implies to me that she knows *exactly* where someone hits to cut off her bending (if we want to be specific she actually doesn't have her arms hit at all and instead she seems to move her back/waist to finagle her arms in such a way to be able to move like that) and counted the time it was since she was hit to the moment she broke out to ensure she hit the sweet spot of when she'd regain her bending but still have her muscles be loose enough to escape her confines
Also the idea that Azula can still do the lightning bending while she doesn't have full control over her own muscles IDk if it was intentional in the comic but you can actually see how the straps on the top half of her body move slowly down as she wiggles her arm out.
