SHIT FUCK I HAVE TO NAME MY GUITAR
My “people perplex me” tag is in full swing this weekend. At a family event yesterday, the small talk turned large when someone brought up Diane Sawyer’s interview with Bruce Jenner. One person vocalized her strong opinion against the public discussion and visibility of trans/queer lifestyles, fearing that they will become “normalized” in the eyes of children.
My family is conservative, but generally reasonable, so I was shocked by her adamancy when I argued how crucial it is to reduce stigmas and give all kids icons in the public eye with whom they can identify. She didn’t seem to consider a thing I said.
After most political conversations, I’m able to accept differences and move on, but I can’t shake this one. And I don’t want to. I need to figure out how to continue the discussion. But first I have to find a way to approach her with enough respect that I can expect respect returned. This is my origin, the place from where I’ve evolved. I can’t continue ahead, not looking back, without at least trying to reach out an arm to help her evolve as well.
Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus are ACTUALLY the same person? The greatest conspiracy!
Wowzers, and I only really validated that fact yesterday. Still, another odd week has passed. You know, I haven't seen Luke in a while. I think I may have done some damage. Or perhaps he just needs space? Now that's one thing that happens: The human mind. If you get to the core of all human action, it all starts in the Cranial Zone, where ideas are born and aspirations come alive. Yet, I have but to see a man who has both conquered his own mind and is still living the Working Man's Paradise. Except with 9 hours of Play. To put this into current context, I propose a thesis: Humans will over-complicate things to the point where they are meaningless. How would I know this? Take the idea of food, for example. Our caveman ancestors knew 3 things about food: Cooking, hunting and eating. Over the years, we as a population had developed processed goods, such as sugar, flour, egg white, which eventually led up to the first bread roll (not historically accurate). As we come to an asymptote of the 21st and so-on Century, we find that food is advertised, traded, even used as smuggling tools for other things. And do we ever actually think of food as significantly as our ancestors once did? Some do, but otherwise, we're all mules in our own aspects. Even myself. In a non-foodie context, perhaps our bonds with the basic society has deteriorated down to a simple "purpose transaction". I was reading some of Calvero's poetry, namely, "Creatively Kill Yourself", which describes elaborately what we as a society have lost, in ironic comparison with the "gains" of the now. Even so, I suppose this is all a giant Domino Effect, and standing up against the storm of industry will merely result in a dishonorable and fast wreck. However, that does not stop us from creating an uprising. Someguy2 and Jay-Z would recall this; I have recently begun picking up rubbish that's kicked to me. Why I do so? Because one day, maybe in a few hundred years, kids our age may be asking their more-or-less educated parents and say: "So what were the people of the past like?" to which the parent would respond "...Who are you again?". I fear that is what society may become; a mass extension of our inner tensions and struggles with our own bonds. Now, I'm still unsure if Rainman gives me authorization to blog about his semi-personal life, but he's started talking to this girl which I would wildly assume is maintaining good relations with. And to that, you could say he is torn between his pals and his personal relations. Rainman will have his own decisions about this, but are we all torn between our relations and our routine behavior? Because, like in Calvero's "Creatively Kill Yourself", we live in a world that "...emphasizes everything except love, happiness or individuality to even care." But, safe to say, we as individuals are not the world. We can change the outlook of our own world's to essentially shift the view of one outlook of the world, but Change starts in the Cranial Zone. One you know the problem and have planned a solution, do we go ahead and slough? No! Like "Ruddy" in the 2013 Elections, we need the people's support for our rise. One you have social support (which very well may take a LONG time), I think you can go ahead and do what you need to do. And after achieving that? I assure you, we as humans will never completely restore meaning to things. However, that does not mean that life itself is meaningless. Therefore, life would gain meaning through the pursuit of one's own dreams? Or would it gain meaning by "feeling the Aster" in things that surround ourselves and our societies (likely on a personal scale, e.g. friends, family, etc.)? I will leave that to you, young padawan. For now, the question is How do we maintain meaning in our bonds and the factors composing these bonds? And to that I say: - Maintain lines of communication: This will ensure that both you and your pals can keep track of where we're at in life and in "Batman: Arkham City" - Utilise Small & Large Talk: Get down to the knitty-gritty and the Rainbow Unicorn parts of life and finally get some answers! - Assess our common ground: All bonds have some kind of common ground, whether it be Castle and Beckett, Heavy & Medic, or even Pacino and Kimble. Make sure the bond is not one that's loosely based or even one-off. - Pursue external components: We should not only be confined to our own bonds and social constraints. Besides, a wider grasp of society actually has its own monetary gains. But, besides that, it's good to expand your reach and get an idea of how other group work. Kind of like how you do all the side missions in "Grand Theft Auto IV" and get a idea of the in's and out's of the city. All in all, don't lose the meaning in things. Because, once meaning is lost, whatever it be, it will all start falling apart like dry ice. 'Til next time, young padawan. And look! It's Raiden! It's Samus! It's freakin' League Of Legends! And I don't even play it! And I don't encourage you to play either!
Trial Exams. Yeah, about them...
Frankly, just like I told Mr. Prasad, I don't feel comfortable talking about my results, especially with you [the reader]. Having that said, Trial exams were lousy. I mean, apparently, only 4 people passed the Physics exam. And practically everyone flunked the Speeches essay. Still, is there room to rise? Maybe so, but we'd have to do so under EXTREME circumstances relative to how we did in BS last year. We'll need to do a lot more than just read the material; we have to do past papers, read some sample answers and understand what you can and can't do. Still, what if we can't rise enough? What if we just get that lousy low Band 5 again? Hmm, I guess you'll have to do that thing where you transfer between university courses. And I assure you, that is the WORST way of getting into a course, simply because you'd have to live with the fact that YOU could not succeed in the standards set and forever, you will be haunted by failure...Maybe not, depends on your outlook and intentions of the future. Yet, we as people are so moody to be swayed by Relative Standards: Comparing our performance with others' (also called Benchmarking, for all you who enjoy being concise fat cats). An 80 in Engineering is acceptable if it is a raw mark. Having knowledge that the next highest mark was 69 makes you feel like you understand Engineering (can anyone really?). But, if you knew your best Engineering pal (Someguy2) got an 82 or even a 95, you'd feel rather down. Because nobody likes to be 2nd place, unless you actually know it's out of your reach for sure. We'd all like to be 1st at something, maybe even I.T. if you're desperate. But wait! Isn't that like us, in a social perspective? I compare my weak, still-hanging-on bonds with that of, say, "G and M". In its own league, maybe it's not such a bad thing, but in comparison with other bonds, all is not well. However, we can still strive on for 2nd place. I mean, it seems logical: Can't get first place, go gets 2nd place. As illusive as that seems, it is likely possible... During the week, Jay-Z actually put his rubbish in the bin. Gasp! I wonder if that's like us: There are many conventions preventing us from doing things, such as habits and our public image in the society. I do not promote the complete breaking of all conventions to the point where breaking conventions is a convention, however, we do need to be aware that sometimes, we don't actually need that much gun... I had a thought that I should publish all this into a book one day. But then I realized that "Should people really have to pay to learn how to think and feel today?". It is always an option, but never a first priority. Though, Is it the attitude that allows one to rise above all the rest? Or is it because through the rise, he is one who has learned that a challenge such as defeating Bane in a fist fight can only be achieved when one is truly ready, with rigorous training and constant attack. Similarly, the HSC is like that: This is your last chance for redemption; the Final Destination. At that point, if you controlled your environment effectively, prepared yourself efficiently and perform in the zone, you'll get that Band 5. Maybe even higher. Whatever the case, should we abandon society in all this? For myself, minimal interaction should be maintained, as few things keep me mentally clear, such as this blog, for example. Without it, all these feelings, references and GIF's would be stuck in ye noggin, and we would be worse off than Othello from UT2004 and "Othello" with Lawrence Fishburne. As for TTOTU 2013x, did you know that you can bond with people anywhere? In the toilets, at the Redfern train station, even when commenting on a pornographic image. It's important not only to maintain a 2 way system and establish common grounds, but also find the effective communication medium for, well, communication. For example, for small talk (short, concise and rather redundant conversations that let you learn things about your target) between you and a fellow colleague, both physical and online options seem feasible. However, for large talk ("Intense, meaningful conversations, full of intelligence and passion" - D. Savage) with a particularly close pal, it'd probably be better to do this in person, as it seems like one of those things where you had to be there to "feel the aster". Like that man at Discovery Day who hit himself in his own privates when carrying a table inside and bumping the table into a pole. In addition to what we already know about bonds so far, a bond requires a combination of large and small talk for effective understanding of each individual. That way, you have a clear idea of what concerns them as well as how their general goings have been. And I assure you, these areas are goldmines for bond building and essentially Sausages. 'Til next time, young padawan. And I'd sure like to get this piece of Nick Cage in "Con Air" as a trophy. I mean, getting the Smash Coin that far into a level takes true dedication, skill and a whole lot of luck. And Nick Cage.
