Larix bloom The «Taiga Rose» starts blooming only after 10 to 15 years, though in dense forests it may take 30 to 35 years. Flowering occurs just once every 3 to 5 years, as it requires a massive amount of strength and energy.

Near Dunkeld Cathedral, Scotland, there is a Larix (larch) tree, which is the last remaining survivor of a group of five, introduced into Scotland in 1738. The Duke of Atholl brought the seedling trees over from the Austrian Tyrol and planted them on his estate. The trees became famous as the seed source for the large scale plantings carried out by the Dukes of Atholl on the hillsides around Dunkeld during the 18th and 19th centuries.

New-to-me fungus - Gomphidius maculatus. It always grows with larches and may be dependent on the larch bolette - Suillus grevillei. The larch bolettes are always common around here but have been exceptionally prolific this year.
