u come me in my time of need......
characters: Cyrus, Colress, Larry
Cyrus knows that his partner comes from a region where Valentine's Day is a two-way affair, but he is eternally struggling to be anything close to romantic. Sure, he can understand base concepts like gift-giving. It is just everything else that fails to come naturally – in fact, in trying to recall the last time he said he loved them, he failed to think of an occurrence in general. So, Lenie, who is always observing her parents' relationship, decides to intervene and give her father ideas on how to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Bravely, she helps him pick out chocolates and get flowers – for whatever reason she insisted upon sunflowers. He also is made to book a reservation at a nicer restaurant in Jubilife. (She firmly told him no beef bowl chains. He sighed.) Her managing prowess would normally impress him had she not forced him firmly into the unknown. Awkwardly, he hands over the chocolates and bouquet before speaking, "I have arranged us dinner plans in Jubilife. Let's go." He still fails to be romantic, but his attempt is charming nonetheless.

Prisma glares down her father, who had yet to leave his lab. Upon noticing her, he bravely asks what is wrong. She announces it is Valentine's Day. Colress nods. He really did not see any reason to dedicate affection and gifts to one specific day. Prisma did not see it that way, however. She places her hands on her hips and orders her father to do something. He blinks. Well, if she thinks he should... He gets up but she grabs his hand, and drags him into the kitchen where various ingredients are laid out. They were making homemade chocolates, it seemed.
Colress followed the instructions as closely as he would in doing chemistry. This led to Prisma chiding him and going off what she declared "vibes." He wondered how she was someone so focused on chemistry now. Though, in the end, they had a dozen heart-shaped chocolates in the fridge cooling. You are caught by your daughter and dragged to see Colress standing stiffly with a box in his hands. Any concerns about a new worrying machine were pushed aside as he opened it to reveal chocolates. "The ritual of today should help reinforce our relationship, no?" he asked as you took one, "Maybe I should look into this as a possible dataset— Ow!" Prisma hit him on the arm.

Larry was bewildered when both Laureano and Araceli blocked his path. He was just coming home after work – had something happened? The girl shook her head while Laureano sighed. His daughter announced he needed to dress nicely and get flowers. He blinked. What... for? His offered up that it was Valentine's Day. He blinked. Right. It was. So, Araceli wandered back into the apartment to find him something nice to wear to dinner that they had arranged for you and him while Laureano helped him search for flowers.
Upon forcing a bouquet of roses into his arms, Larry was then forced into a nicer suit than his typical work attire and guided to a nicer Kantonian restaurant. He already felt exhausted, but when both of his children insisted, it felt impossible to protest. Upon entering, he spied you sitting at a table dressed far too nicely. He let out a breath and greeted you. "These are for you," he simply said and held out the flowers for you, "Laureano said that these are your favourites." The bluntness got a laugh out of you, which made the man feel less tired. Well, you would both get to enjoy some good food in the end.
Other parents send kids their pokemon missing them...
Nanu sighs as he watches his Persian paw and meow at Ohi'a's door. He sends his son a video of this, and Ohi'a feels sad. He knew the pokemon adored him, but he did not think she would miss him. Another video is the feline curled up on his bed. He talks to her on the phone and assures her that he will return eventually. He gets a trill in response.
Grimsley sends a video of his Liepard looking around Nero's room for him. She turns to Grismley sadly at the end and meows. Nero is trying not to feel too bad about the feline missing him, but watching her search for him makes him demand a phone call to reassure her. She happily meows whenever he talks and starts purring. She does similarly for Morrigan, but Morrigan opts to just send her own Liepard sprawled out in her dorm bed. It is entirely claimed. Grimsley laughs.
Saturn sends his Toxicroak opening Aegaeon's bedroom door and glancing around in search of him. When she fails to find him, she turns back to the Galactic Commander and stares at him accusingly. He assures her that the boy is safe but her cheek sacs just puff out. Aegaeon is frightened. How many times has his father's pokemon sneaked into his room...
Larry sends his Staraptor messing up his children's beds. The bird seems deflated as it lays down on Araceli's bed and caws. The girl suggests letting it as she does not really mind. Her own Staraptor has been doing that anyway to her dorm bed. She sends a picture of it in the act. Laureano and Larry then exchange a text chat that reads like a business deal to outsiders. They have arranged a visit home from the academy to comfort the poor bird.
Cyrus awkwardly sends Lenie a video of his Houndoom whimpering and laying outsider her bedroom door. He states that the canine has been like this for days. Lenie feels sad and suggests letting him in her room. A video of Houndoom sniffing where she would most often be in her room is sent. She has an urge to visit home suddenly as the poor Houndoom whines. Her dad's Weavile also has sneaked in and is nestling on her bed. He later sends a picture of his full team, barring Gyarados, in her room. She feels happy to be so loved.
N sends his Zoroark searching desperately in Clover's room. "He really is worried about you... He says its not normal for you to be gone so long," is the text accompanying it. A call is had with the Zoroark where Clover explains that she is studying but will return. Zoroark whimpers in reply. It is now understood, but the poor pack pokemon is not happy.
Lear sends his Gholdengo sitting in Regan's quarters while expressing frustration that the pokemon refuses to leave. Regan is oddly happy that the pokemon misses him. Hoopa is in a panic searching for Cordelia before pulling out a ring. There is no time for pictures, the princess is returned and is very upset since she was sleeping. Hoopa is clinging to her. Lear is bewildered.
Colress sends Prisma his Klinklang floating in her room. The steel type apparently misses her. She talks to it on the phone. It listens.
Also... hiding your egg from your harpy husband and watching him panic.
Archeops Ingo is squawking and searching all over for the egg in a pure panic. The egg is just under the cover beside you. Ingo becomes broody and cuddles the egg.
Archeops Emmet stares at you until you tell him where it is. He then returns it to the nest with little fanfare. You are asked to hold the egg.
Togekiss Volo glares at you. Easter is not a holiday in Hisui, nor is it even well known. The joke is not appreciated. He finds the egg in record time and becomes broody.
Staraptor Larry freezes for a moment. Why...? He then searches for the egg with uncharacteristic fervour. It is left in the nest with himself almost feeling an urge to brood. He stops himself.
Honchkrow Cyrus becomes immediately unhappy. He demands that you simply return the egg to the nest. If he has to find it, however... Sight of a broody villain clutching an egg to himself and rocking.
Staraptor Lear is not entertained. While it's one thing to hide plastic eggs... This is his heir! He orders his staff to find it and scolds you for doing such a thing. He then becomes broody and demands you stay at his side in the nest. The egg is safe.
Do not hide the eggs, moral of the story. Bird men will be sad and worried.
Ingo enjoys long, sweet kisses but mostly finds himself sticking to chaste, quick ones since he usually struggles to find the time to allow himself such sweet affection. These quick kisses make his day regularly. A quick pop-in from you at the station with a sweet kiss to his cheek gives him more energy than his beloved coffee can ever hope to. Yet… At times, you catch him alone, a loving kiss placed on his lips leaves him ironically drained of energy. His eyes go lidded as he attempts to process just what that was. Ingo is left longing for more, but knowing he cannot do anything. (When he is at home, this is a different story.)
Emmet enjoys any kind of kiss, but his favourite is probably when he gets to pepper you all over with his own. His favourite to receive, however, is deeper kisses. He will often catch you off-guard by wrapping his arms around you, you, and pulling you into a hug. While you are trapped, he instantly moves into covering your face and neck with little pecks and giggling at how you writhe a bit if you are ticklish. He feels completely fulfilled afterwards. But, you grasp him by his tie and pull him in for a more intense kiss, letting your lips move against his and perhaps letting tongues have their own involvement that he eagerly returns the favour. You pull away to his lidded eyes and terrifying smile. He would like to take things further, following.
Cyrus favours simple kisses to show one's affection, more sporadically when possible. Catching him at any moment with a quick peck to his cheek likely results in a low hum from him. His struggles with affection always hang in the air, despite how he quietly enjoys the show of affection. As he grows more accepting of these things (if ever), he does prefer more loving shows in kisses. What you used to be quick pecks can turn into proper kisses. Your lips press to his own as he moves his own in rhythm with your own, rather than standing stiffly and confused. He feels oddly complete by the affection and struggles to articulate why.
Larry also prefers simple kisses. The more generic the affection, the better, in his opinion. You often find him pull you in for a quick kiss as a greeting as long as the situation allowed for such a thing, or he quite enjoys you greeting him with a kiss to his cheek before moving onto his lips. These basic affections fuel him in a strange way. An example of how he has come to accept this romantic relationship of his. He does not have any deeper insight than that he simply enjoys simple shows of how much his partner loves him.
Nanu likes lazy kisses. Something like rolling over in bed to peck one in your forehead. Overly grand shows or intense things feel too tiring for him. There is not a lot of effort that comes from the Kahuna. However, he will not deny his enjoyment when you meet his lazy movements with more energy. A quick kiss is instead met by your arms pulling him closer and moving your lips against his own. He signs. You meeting him somewhere in the middle of things makes his life a little more exciting.
Grimsley likes “risky” kisses. Something perhaps too passionate for whatever situation he finds himself in. If he has you sitting with him in his Elite Four chamber, you may find his lips suddenly lying pressed against your own as he pulls your body close to his. His tongue presses against your lips as he works to intensify the kiss. At any moment, in the back of his mind, he knows a challenger may enter. The thrill of them catching Elite Four Grimsley making out with his partner almost makes him shudder. (In Alola, he probably wants to try to do something similar on the back of a Mantine he is surfing on with you. Probably decline.)
Volo enjoys passionate, claiming kisses. The idea of something that will utterly claim you leaves him deeply enchanted. His lips press against your own as he has his taller form trap you against a rocky surface out in the wilds of Hisui. Your lips almost unconsciously move with his own as the kiss becomes something deeper and meaningful. His hands grasp your sides tightly, desperate for your recognition and acceptance. Volo's mind twists with thoughts of varying levels of concern. When he breaks the kiss, all he can focus on are how distant your gaze is and how you pant. He feels smug about your state, knowing he did it.
Guzma likes surprise kisses. Something about his partner suddenly cupping his cheek and leaning in to give him a quick peck makes his heart race. He eagerly returns the affection, wanting to make it clear that he deeply enjoys your touch. He usually gives frequent kisses himself in contrast, however. He often catches you by the chin and pulls you in for a quick kiss, letting himself linger there just long enough to get his fill. Sporadically, though, he will pull you into an embrace before finally going in for a kiss. He feels a bit embarrassed by those needing moments, but he is relieved that you at least seem unbothered by them (and even possibly enjoy them). Big Bad Guzma is very domesticated towards you.
I been wondering for a while. Which would be each fanchild's first word? And which fathers would be the ones who want to teach them a specific word (like dad, mom, or some other word you think of)?
Erin definitely said “dada,” and Ingo definitely was trying his hardest to get that from him. The Subway Boss clutched over his heart when his son finally said the word. Granted, he did not seem to be so sure what it meant, saying it while looking at various things. But, in due time, he knew the boy would know to use it to get his attention.
Inka... loudly proclaimed “Jo-ik” and Emmet was surprised. He had been trying for dada like his twin was, but it seemed his daughter had other plans. Emma soon joined her sister in the “Jo-ik” chorus and left him distressed. The spiders had won over him. They both seemed far too happy to say the strange pronunciation over and over to each other and him.
Lenie said… dada. It was not necessarily something that Cyrus had been trying for, as he had no preference for what her first words should be. This, however, does kill him. She looks directly at him while calling out the phrase. He has to take a step back before kneeling. He feels so… special. She babbles the word over and over again as he attempts to process these horrible feelings.
Colress knew that Prisma's first words would nothing hit gibberish, but he was taken aback by the direct eye contact and the droning “mama” that came from her as she stared at her other parent. Somehow, he despite knowing it was nothing but nonsensical sounds, he felt a bit jealous. While she spent most of her time with them, he wanted to be acknowledged. Granted… He did sort of get it when she looked at him and said mama once more. It confirmed that she certainly had not attached a meaning to it yet.
Morrigan shocked Grimsley when those bright blue eyes of hers stared directly into him. “Dada…” came from her. The gambler was likely more shocked than he should have been. He was her father, after all. Morrigan was far too cute. A hand came to rub her head. Nero… however, caught him more off-guard. Glancing up at his other parent, his tiny hand grasped their shirt. “Mama…” He repeated over and over again. Grimsley was shocked. Morrigan had taken to him while Nero had chosen the other. Twins were more confusing than he would like.
Clover mumbled quietly to herself as N sat in the forest together. Her little face looked almost ethereal. They both observed nature. It was a silent bond shared between the two green-haired people. Suddenly, her eyes glanced at him. “Bo-ee?” N blinked. Her words… It was almost impossible to understand. Bo-ee...? Poke…? Was she talking about pokemon? Almost enthusiastically, she repeated it. “Bo-ee!” this time, she looked at the Deerling lying near the two. He nodded. “That's a Deerling, a pokemon...” She smiled in reply. N felt oddly happy her first word was that.
Regan's first word… Lear was not surprised at all. “Mama…” He had mumbled it while being held by his other parent. A sigh would only leave the prince… An expected first word, yet not one he would reject. To him, there was a sacred relationship there he held nothing but admiration towards. … He did want a dada, though. Eventually. Cordelia, however, gave him exactly that. The little girl looked up at him from where she sat in his lap and mumbled a “dada…” Lear burst into tears and clung to the girl tightly. His beloved Cordie.
Astrea... Volo was constantly with her. He watched as she wandered around the cave with him. An isolated spot in Hisui for him to be out on his own without worrying for any possible downsides. It was in this place that his precious daughter finally spoke her first words. “… Gi-gi...” The sounds would have not caught his attention had it not been for the eldritch feeling in the air. Sure enough, Volo spotted the familiar glowing eyes of a pokemon. Astrea stared right at it. He tried to pretend that he was not seeing this.
Ohi'a was sitting with Nanu and his many Meowths. The kahuna almost felt ignorant of his own toddler son at his side. Granted, if the boy attempted to stray from his side, the older man would no doubt immediately stop him. It was at this relatively peaceful moment that the boy turned to him. “Dada…” He mumbled the phrase. Nanu nearly jumped out of his skin. Everything else he had attempted to say were assorted sounds, but he said that sound with such confidence whilst looking at him that Nanu felt certain that he was sure enough to call him that. The Kahuna struggled to accept that his son's first words had been dada forever afterwards.
Laureano... he had a very expected first word. Gripping onto Larry's suit jacket as he attempted to get ready to go to work. “Dada…” the words came far too clearly. Larry froze and blanked at his son. Dada… Laureano repeated himself as it to make it even more clear that it was what he was calling him. He then called for his spouse, shocked their son had said his first words. Araceli was a much different story. The flighty toddler was not a simple “dada” type. No, she went for something more confusing. “Bibi…” she mumbled while sitting with his Staraptor. Larry would have assumed it was gibberish until she tried again. It was only then he realised she was attempting to say bird. If only he had known what this simple interaction would hold.
